I sang Toora Loora Looral, Oh Susanna, Clementine, Siuil a Ruin, Hushaby Mountain, My Bonnie, You Are My Sunshine, Tons of Peter, Paul & Mary, Bohemian Folks songs .... and even more oddly....One Tin Soldier

Looking back they are the same songs by Mother sang too me (what up with the war protest song mom?)....but this below was her favorite

    Melanie Safka....Alexander Beetle

    I had a little beetle
So that beetle was his name
    And I called him Alexander
And he answered just the same
And I put him in a matchbox
And I kept him all the day
But Nana let my beetle out
Yes Nana let my beetle out
She went and let my beetle out
    And beetle ran away

She said she didn't mean it
And I never said she did
    She said she wanted matches
And she just took off the lid
    She said I mustn't worry
    And I really mustn't mind
That there's lots and lots of beetles
The she's certain we could find
    She said I mustn't worry
    But it's difficult to catch
    An excited sort of beetle
    You've mistaken for a match

If we looked in all the places
That a beetle might be near
And we made the kind of noises
That a beetle likes to hear
And I heard a kind of something
And I gave a sort of shout
    It was a beetle house
    And Alexander beetle coming out
    It was Alexander beetle
I'm as certain as can be
And he had that kind of look as though
He thought it might be me

And he had that kind of look as though
He thought he ought to say
"I'm really very sorry that I tried to run away"
    And Nana's very sorry too
Cause you know what she did
    And she's writing Alexander
    Very blackly on the lid
So nan and me are friends because
    It's difficult to catch
    An excited Alexander
    You've misstaken for a match

When my babies were still unborn, in my last month of pregnancy I would sit in front of the speakers and play classical music. I had learned that they can hear inside the womb.

After they were born, when they were fussy, I would lay them down on the floor in front of the same speakers and play the same music. They would settle imediately and just listen with their eyes wide open.

Rachmoninov, Beethoven, Lizst, Chopin, etc., etc., ....most was piano only.

It's funny, but both now love music and have beautiful singing voices. One plays the drums and learned to play the oboe, the other was a member of a major boys choir for the city. Both love classical music along with the latest stuff.

My baby boy has a book called "I love you forever". We sing a song from one of the saying in the book.

I love you forever, I like you for always....as long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

He sings....I love you foerever, I like you for always...as long as I'm living my mommy you'll be.

I sang Barges and The Wind is Blowing. Both of them I sang when I was a little girl. I also sang many others. They still like me to sing to them and they are grown up now.

Lately, for my 3 year old we've been singing this....

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Little jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

Now, even though it's a sad "story" we have the CD and the show is actually very sweet and has a happy ending. My Sierra LOVES this song. She's been asking me to sing it to her almost every day when we go to sleep.
