But, as far as the book of Acts is concerned, the fact remains that there is no hint to their 'accepting him as one of the Twelve'. (And Paul doesn't claim that either.)

Paul claimed it in nearly all of his letter. There is no need for him to claim it in Acts. Why? Because Jesus did that for him. Paul was Jesus Apostle and this was not dependent upon any of the others accepting him as such. Peter accepted him as shown earlier.
