Wow, YES Cognac.. I thought this was just me! Perhaps it's that we feel so aloof and superior from the problems as well as the joys of society around us. Maybe for this reason we become emotionally detached?

    WOW GREAT THREAD THANKS. :-)

    Cognac,

JWs make me feel like I'm crazy. I can't just be myself. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells.

When I'm around non-JWs I am funny, outgoing, and just at ease. They are very supportive in my feeling that JWs are crazy, lol

That's exactly how I've felt in the past few months.. and has been a major factor in my deciding to leave. I was begining to feel very isolated. Living in a city of 8 million inhabitants, belonging to a JW congregation, yet I felt I had not a single friend.

I've found myself much more comfortable around people now that I'm not just trying to lead them into a conversation that I can use to start a witness. And I feel very different. I am starting to establish friendships again. Life is good! (But it's still tough!)

Oh yes, I learned how to numb things. How to be detached. Because strong feelings--extreme happiness, sadness, etc.--were never looked upon as good. I'm undoing that bottling up of emotions, and it feels better to do that.
