The elders in my hall were/are so lazy. You could do anything and not get busted. I don't know. I've done everything but was not associating when I was doing it. That could be why I'm not bothered. If I went back now, who knows if they would do anything. They are just so lazy.

Pg 99, 100 of "Pay Attention to Yourselves and to all the Flock"

    Ah Ha! Thanks.

For anyone who may be interested:

Baptized persons who have not associated for some time.

If you learn of serious wrongdoing on the part of such a person,
the matter should be investigated if it poses threat to the congregation's
cleanness and welfare or causes a public scandal.

    Consider the following:

Does he still profess to be a witness?

Is he generally recognized as such In the congregation and/or the community?

Does the person have a measure of contact or association with the congregation s
o that a leavening, or corrupting, influence exists?

How did the matter become known to the elders?

Is the person willing to meet with a committee,
thus admitting accountability to the Christian congregation?

Depending upon length of inactivity and other factors
suggested above, elders may determine to hold the
    matter in abeyance.

In such a case, a record of the persons questionable
conduct should be made for congregation file so
that everythmg noted might be clarified when the
person shows intrest in becoming active again.

If the sinful conduct is known only to believing family
members and no congregation action is taken because
of the factors outlined above, believing relatives will
likely determine to curtail family association severely,
viewing the relative as bad association. (1 Cor 1:33)

If the individual still professes to be a Witness and is
willing to meet with the judicial committee, the matter
should be handled in the normal way. However, when factors
such as possible legal action exist, it is best to consult
    the Society before preceeding (w87 9/1 p. 14)

I love that one. Agreeing to meet with them allows them to hang a person.
Not agreeing to bother with the star-chamber council makes it easier to just
let it go. WHY NOT JUST LET IT GO TO BEGIN WITH? Tell them this rule
and they will say NO THANKS.

SH*T DOESNT STINK IF YOU DONT STEP IN IT.

This could be their MO right now. If they have a lot of other issues going on, and the actions of such one are not causing a stir in the congo, then it will probably be let go.

If that person starts attending meetings again, then it will be addressed at some point. Depends on the what and who and how long ago. If it is out right in your face issues...then he/she can be DF in absentia.... if it is quiet, not obvious...then maybe they wont spend the time "investigating" since they are not considered "leaven" in the congo at the present time.

I know a brother who was away from the "Troof" (but never DF/DA/reproof) for 15+ years...former MS..... had scriptural divorce....but remarried in a Catholic Church (which is a JC offense of idolatry). When he started coming to our KH again after years of inactivity, the issue was brought up by an elder who wanted a witch hunt. I told the brothers at the time (since I was on that BOE)...look, he is not a Catholic, its been over a decade since the wedding, know one here knows about it....talk to him just 2 brothers...make sure he doesnt belong to the church...and let it go.....

..amazingly, they listened to what I said......nothing judicial happened...our BOE conferred with his prior congo just to be sure no other issues were in play...they had a nice chat to make sure no other issues... and he is now a publisher again.... (ironically, this brother was the last brother to study with me as a teen before I got baptized)

from what I've heard elder bodies can sometimes be split within themselves about what to do in such a case as you've outlined.

So sometimes it depends on how much influence each elder has with the other elders. It isn't clearcut and it is risky.

edit: oops - hadn't read snakes' post
