Imitate the Greatest Missionary"Become imitators of me, even as I am of Christ."--1 COR. 11:1

    Opening Comments

How many of you gave experiences at an assembly or convention and had them tweaked beyond your recognition? The experiences here are handpicked and massaged to "encourage" the rank and file and make them feel "guilty" for not DOING MORE.

Also, what publications did Jesus and his first century followers use or was it just the Bible? Did they even quote from the letters of the apostles in each other's letters?

As an imitator of Christ, what publications did Paul quote from? If there was a "faithful and discreet slave" class then, what publications did they write and distribute? Hmmmm..........

    START OF ARTICLE

Q (1) Why should we imitate Jesus Christ?

    1. THE apostle Paul imitated the greatest Missionary, Jesus Christ. Paul also urged his fellow Christians: "Become imitators of me, even as I am of Christ.1I (1 Cor: 11:1) After Jesus gave his apostles an object lesson in humility by humbly washing their feet, he told them: "I set the pattern for you, that, just as I did to you, you should do also." (John 13:12-15) As present-day Christians, we have an obligation to imitate Jesus Christ in our words and deeds and in the qualities we display. -1 Pet. 2:21.

Paul said to imitate Jesus not God. Jesus said to imitate him not God. Peter said to imitate Jesus. Why not God?

Present day Christians = only jws

    *** w04 11/15 p. 22 par. 12 Search for Jehovah, the Examiner of Hearts ***

Although some professed Christians accept the truth of God’s Word, Christendom’s worship itself is not motivated by genuine love for God.

"words and deeds"--James 2:15,16--which was more important, which came first?

(James 2:15-16) 15 If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, 16 yet a certain one of YOU says to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,” but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it?

Didn't Jesus feed his hungry followers as well as preaching to them? (Mark 6:34-44)

Q (2) Even if you have not been appointed by the Governing Body as a missionary, what attitude can you have?
    2. In the preceding article, we learned that a missionary is one who is sent as an evangelizer--one who brings good news to others. In this regard, Paul posed some interesting questions. (Read Romans 10:11-15.) Note that the apostle asked: "How. ..will they hear without someone to preach?" He then quoted the words from Isaiah's prophecy: "How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!" (Isa. 52:7) Even if you have not been appointed and sent forth to serve as a missionary in a foreign assignment, you can have the evangelizing spirit, imitating Jesus as a zealous proclaimer of the good news. Last year, 6,957,852 Kingdom publishers 'did the work of evangelizers' in 236 lands.-2 Tim. 4:5.

Does appointment come from the Governing Body (a phrase that is not even in the Bible) or God and Jesus?

Notice how the WTS is always concerned about "attitude."

Proclaimer or publisher--what is the difference.

6,957,852 so exact (peak or average?)--how many are MIA, the difference between the increase in the average publishers and the number baptized.

"We Have Left All Things and Followed You"
Q (3, 4) What did Jesus leave behind in heaven, and what must we do in order to be his followers?
3 To fulfill his assigned role on the earth, Jesus "emptied himself and took a slave's form," leaving behind his heavenly life and glory. (Phil. 2: 7) Whatever we do in imitation of Christ cannot be compared with what Jesus did when coming to the earth. But we can remain steadfast as his followers, not longingly looking back at what we had in Satan's world.-1 John 5:19.

4 On one occasion, the apostle Peter told Jesus: "Look! We have left all things and followed you." (Matt. 19:27) Peter, Andrew, James, and John quickly abandoned their nets when invited to follow Jesus. They left behind the fishing business and made the ministry their vocation. According to Luke's Gospel account, Peter said: "Look! We have left our own things and followed you." (Luke 18:28) Most of us did not have to leave all "our own things" behind so as to follow Jesus. However, we did have to 'disown ourselves' to become followers of Christ and wholehearted servants of Jehovah. (Matt. 16: 24) Such a course has resulted in rich blessings. (Read Matthew 19:29. ) Having an evangelizing spirit in imitation of Christ brings joy to our heart, especially if we have had even a small part in helping someone to draw close to God and his beloved Son.

Why say what a Christian (jw) does cannot COMPARE to what Jesus did?

(Galatians 6:4) . . .But let each one prove what his own work is, and then he will have cause for exultation in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person. . .

Materialism--not longingly looking back--a frequent control theme of the WTS.

Quickly abandoned nets...left behind the fishing business--but they went back.

Where did their food, etc., come from?

(Luke 8:3) . . .and many other women, who were ministering to them from their belongings.

    *** w03 6/1 pp. 4-5 Giving That Pleases God ***

At Luke 8:1-3, for example, we are told that Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and others used “their belongings” in quietly ministering to Jesus and his apostles. Although these men were not destitute, they had abandoned their means of livelihood to focus their efforts exclusively on the ministry. (Matthew 4:18-22; Luke 5:27, 28) By helping them to complete their God-given assignment, these women, in effect, glorified God. And God showed his appreciation by preserving a record of their merciful generosity in the Bible for all future generations to read.—Proverbs 19:17; Hebrews 6:10.

"even a small part"--the WTS has said that being seen at the meetings by non-jws qualifies.

Q (5) Relate an experience that demonstrates what an immigrant may decide to do upon learning Bible truth.
5 Valmir, a Brazilian man living in the interior of Suriname, was a gold miner. He was an alcoholic who led an immoral life. Once when he was in a city, Jehovah's Witnesses started to study the Bible with him. He studied every day, made many changes, and was soon baptized. When he saw that his work made it difficult to live in harmony with his newfound faith, he sold his lucrative business and moved back to Brazil to help his family find spiritual treasures. Upon learning Bible truth, many immigrants willingly give up jobs in affluent countries and go back to their homeland with the objective of helping their relatives and others spiritually. Such Kingdom publishers display a real evangelizing spirit.

alcoholic--nothing said how he changed--cold turkey, rehab, support from jws???

"studied every day"--how many jws would make the time but turn it over to the elders or pioneers, not wanting to give up their little free time?

    his work--lucrative--what not in harmony?

moved back to Brazil--so is the WTS saying that immigrants must move home? In the US the only increase comes from immigrants.

Q (6) What can we do if we cannot move to where the need for Kingdom proclaimers is greater?
6 A number of Witnesses have been able to move to areas where the need for Kingdom preachers is greater. Some even serve abroad. Personally, we may not be in a position to make such a move, but we can imitate Jesus by always doing our best in the ministry.

    Witnesses--why not "Christian" Witnesses?

    Need...greater--another peculiar to jws concept

"may not be in a position"

    *** w87 2/1 p. 15 par. 1 Doing Our Utmost to Declare the Good News ***

“A FEW years ago, many of us thought that only those with special circumstances could pioneer,” wrote a pioneer, or full-time minister, in Japan. “It seems we were wrong. We are learning that only those with special circumstances cannot pioneer.”

And where is the "increase" in Japan? Actually, they are decreasing in numbers and congregations.

    "always doing our best"--DO MORE

Do jws really get the training, most women only appearong on the TMS twice yearly, how many actually read the publications, use the Bible in their comments and presentations, actually make effective "return visits" preparing beforehand?

    Jehovah Provides Needed Training

Q (7) What schools are available for training those who want to enhance their ability as Kingdom proclaimers?
7 Just as Jesus received training from his Father, we can take advantage of the education that Jehovah is now providing. Jesus himself said: "It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by Jehovah.' " (John 6:45; Isa. 54:13) Today, there are schools especially designed to equip us as Kingdom proclaimers. Doubtless, all of us have benefited in some way from the Theocratic Ministry School in our local congregations. Pioneers are privileged to attend the Pioneer Service School. A number of experienced pioneers have had the pleasure of attending the school a second time. Elders and ministerial servants have attended the Kingdom Ministry School to enhance their teaching ability and the service they render to fellow believers. Numerous single elders and ministerial servants have gone through the Ministerial Training School, which equips them to help others in the preaching work. And many of the brothers and sisters who have received foreign missionary assignments have been trained at the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead.

Is education from God (Bible) or the WTS (FDS) publications?

"privileged"--do you think they had a pioneer school in the first century?

KMS--tell us elders, was it more teaching ability or WTS policy reminders?

MTS--company men sent to "troubled" congregations with less then obedient elders or with low "numbers"?

Gilead--no single women (rare exception) because it is designed to train male WTS administrators.
Q (8) How much do some brothers value the training that Jehovah provides?
8 Many Witnesses of Jehovah have made adjustments in order to attend these schools. To attend the Ministerial Training School in Canada, Yugu resigned from his secular work because his employer denied his request for a leave. "I don't regret it,” said Yugu. “In fact, if they had given me a leave of absence as a favor, they might have expected me to stay with the company permanently out of loyalty. But now I am available for whatever assignment I might yet receive from Jehovah.” To take advantage of training provided by God, many have willingly sacrificed what they once valued highly.--Luke 5:28.

Why not "Christian" Witnesses of Jehovah?

Resigned from secular work--good pressure on current elder training at Patterson.

What about the yearly counsel to jws that miss the Friday session of the convention? Why aren't they quitting their jobs?
Q (9) Give an example that shows the effectiveness of Scriptural teaching and earnest effort.

9 Scriptural teaching and earnest effort are very effective. (2 Tim. 3:16, 17) Consider what happened in the case of Saulo in Guatemala. He was born with a slight mental disability, and one of his teachers told his mother that she should not force the boy to learn to read, as that would only frustrate him. Saulo left school without knowing how to read. However, a Witness taught Saulo to read using the brochure Apply Yourself to Reading and Writing. Eventually, Saulo advanced to the point of giving talks in the Theocratic Ministry School. Saulo's mother later met his teacher in the house-to-house ministry. Upon hearing that Saulo had learned to read, the teacher asked her to bring him along the following week. The next week, the teacher asked Saulo, “What are you going to teach me?” Saulo started to read a paragraph from the book "What Does the Bible Really Teach? "I cannot believe that you are now teaching me,” said the teacher. Unable to hold back her tears, she embraced Saulo.

"not knowing how to read"--I have known several men in the congregation that could not read even after 15 years as jws, yet they were allowed to give talks (memorized) and to be MS and elder.

    Teaching That Moves the Heart
Q (10) What excellent tool is available for our use in teaching Bible truth?

    10. Jesus based his teaching on what Jehovah taught him directly and on instruction found in God's written Word. (Luke 4:16-21; John 8:28) We imitate Jesus by applying his counsel and adhering to the Scriptures. All of us thus speak and think in agreement, and this contributes to our unity. (1 Cor. 1: 10) How grateful we are that "the faithful and discreet slave" provides Bible-based publications to help us maintain unity in our teaching and accomplish our work as evangelizers! (Matt. 24:45; 28:19,20) One of these publications is the Bible Teach book, now available in 179 languages.

Jesus based his teaching on...God's written word--Can you think of WTS doctrine that has no scripture...no beards for men, or 1925 being the end?

Where are the scriptures about judicial committees or reproof instead of "disfellowshipping" or turning in time slips?

Is "unity" the goal? Didn't the Jewish religious leaders want "unity" to the extent of invalidating the Word of God? The WTS/FDS does not think the Bible is sufficient but has published numerous books and other publications to "enhance" God's Word.

    *** w94 10/1 p. 8 The Bible—A Book Meant to Be Understood ***

Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the “greatly diversified wisdom of God” can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68.

Q (11) How did a sister in Ethiopia overcome opposition by using the Bible Teach book?
11 Studying the Scriptures using the Bible Teach book can even change the heart of opposers. On one occasion Lula, a pioneer sister in Ethiopia, was conducting a Bible study when a relative of the student burst in and said that they need not have such a study. Lula calmly reasoned with the relative, using the illustration about counterfeit money in chapter 15 of the Bible Teach book. The woman calmed down and allowed them to resume the study. In fact, she was there for the next study and requested her own Bible study, even offering to pay for it! She was soon studying three times a week and made fine spiritual progress.

Can jws study the Bible with other people without a publication? Did you ever try it? I did and was pressured to use a publication.

How many jws can "calmly" reason without running to the elders or the publications rather than the Bible?
Q (12) Give an example to show how young people can effectively teach Bible truths.
12 Young people can help others by using the Bible Teach book. When ll-year-old Keanu in Hawaii was reading this book in school, one of his classmates asked him, "Why don't you celebrate holidays?" Keanu read the answer right from the appendix topic "Should We Celebrate Holidays?" He then turned to the book's table of contents and asked the boy which subject interested him the most. A Bible study was started. Last service year, Jehovah's Witnesses conducted 6,561,426 Bible studies, many of which put the Bible Teach book to good use. Are you using this tool on Bible studies?

Did Keanu use the Bible or a WTS publication? Did he reach for his Bible or the Bible Teach book?

What would have Jesus done? Reached for the Talmud or the Torah?
    Q. (13) In what way can studying the Bible have a strong influence on people?
13 Studying the Scriptures using the Bible Teach book can exert a strong influence on those desiring to do God's will. A special pioneer couple in Norway started a Bible study with a family from Zambia. The Zambian couple had three daughters and did not want another baby. So when the woman became pregnant, they decided in favor of an abortion. A few days before consulting with a doctor, they studied the chapter entitled "A Godly View of Life." The picture of an unborn child appearing in that chapter touched the couple so deeply that they decided against the abortion. They continued to make fine spiritual progress and named their newborn son after the study conductor.

Did this couple consult the Bible or a WTS publication? What has the real authority from God, the Bible or a WTS publication?

Q (14) Illustrate how living in harmony with what we teach can produce good results.
    14. An important aspect of Jesus' way of teaching was that he lived in harmony with what he taught. Many people come to appreciate the fine conduct of Jehovah's Witnesses, who imitate Jesus in this regard. A businessman in New Zealand had his car broken into and his briefcase stolen. He reported this to the police, who said: "Your only chance of getting your property back would be if one of Jehovah's Witnesses was to find it." A Witness delivering newspapers found the briefcase. Notified of this, the owner came to the sister's home. He was relieved to find that a document that was invaluable to him was there. The sister told him, "It was only proper that I return the property, especially as I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses." The businessman was amazed, remembering what the constable had told him that very morning. Clearly, true Christians are living according to the teachings found in the Bible and in imitation of Jesus.-Heb.13:18.

    Imitate Jesus' Attitude Toward People
Q (15, 16) How can we attract people to the message we preach?

15 Jesus' attitude toward people attracted them to his message. For instance, his love and humility drew lowly ones to him. He expressed compassion for those who came to him and comforted them with kind words, healing many physically. (Read Mark 2: 1-5. ) We cannot perform miracles, but we can show love, humility, and compassion--qualities that help to draw people to the truth.

16 Compassion played a role when a special pioneer named Tariua called at the home of an elderly man named Beere, who lives on one of the more isolated islands of Kiribati in the South Pacific. Though the man indicated that he was unwilling to listen, Tariua noticed that he was partially paralyzed and felt compassion for him. "Have you heard what God promises for people who are sick and elderly?" she asked. Then she read a passage from Isaiah's prophecy. (Read Isaiah 35:5, 6.) Intrigued, the man said, "I've been reading the Bible for years and have been visited by a missionary from my religion for many years, but I've never seen that in the Bible." A Bible study was started with Beere, and he made fine spiritual progress. Yes, he was severely crippled, but he is now baptized, takes the lead in caring for an isolated group, and is able to walk all over the island preaching the good news.

    "attitude"

"love and humility"--but elders who can't make shepherding calls

"expressed compassion"--how many elders talk to the "lowly" jws at the meetings, attend the visitation for the non-jw relatives of those in the

congregation, "kind words" or criticism of grooming, dress, type of car, materialism, not attending enough meetings, not DOING MORE.

Can you imagine that this man read about Jesus' healing miracles and didn't know about God's promises for the sick and elderly?

If you ever played "Bible" games, you readily knew who and how few jws read their Bibles.

"walk all over the island"--guilt-making maneuver, no excuse for "healthy" jws.

    Continue to Imitate Christ

Q (17, 18) (a) How can you become a successful evangelizer? (b) What is in store for those who take their ministry seriously?
17 As joyful experiences in the ministry repeatedly demonstrate, we can be successful evangelizers if we cultivate and display the qualities manifested by Jesus. How fitting it is, then, that we imitate Christ as zealous evangelizers!

18 When some became Jesus' disciples in the first century, Peter asked: "What actually will there be for us?" Jesus replied: "Everyone that has .left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive many times more and will inherit everlasting life." (Matt. 19:27-29) That is certain to be our experience if we continue to imitate the greatest Missionary, Jesus Christ.

joyful...successful...zealous--and if you aren't, there's something wrong with your "attitude."

    CARROT--inherit everlasting life

jws do leave their non-jw family--bad association

    *** w06 3/15 p. 23 par. 9 “Each One Will Carry His Own Load” ***

What about having close association with those who may be morally clean but who lack faith in the true God? The Scriptures tell us: “The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” (1 John 5:19) We come to discern that bad associations are not limited to permissive or morally debased people. Hence, we are wise to cultivate close friendships only with those who love Jehovah.

    How Would You Respond?

How is Jehovah training us to be evangelizers?
Why is the Bible Teach book effective in our ministry?
How can we imitate Jesus in our attitude toward people?

    Closing Comments

So the WTS ends with the real motivation for jws--the carrot--everlasting life, not love, compassion, or empathy.

Next week: Christ's presence, 1874 or 1914; 1914, the beginning or the conclusion (Armageddon).

Didn't even Jesus state that you keep searching the scriptures - as if that is what is going to get you saved. So, it's not as if we have to understand everything correctly. Even the FDS comes out with "new light".

So, how in the hell can they say that Christendom's worship is not motivated by genuine love??? Who the hell are they to judge that??? Are they not trying to take the place of God in judging them??? They are really friggin sick...

I bet the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger never comes out with the real teaching of Jesus. Which was to free the people from bicameral-type thinking. Instead of taking orders from our right brain or external authority, Jesus wanted to help people actually make conscious decisions, to think consciously, and to become independent of such authorities including God. (In fact, God was uses as a metaphor to give people the tool needed to break free).

By contrast, the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger continually tells us not to think on our own. We are to become dependent on external authority (namely, the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger). What they say, we are supposed to do. This is the exact opposite of what Jesus actually taught! No wonder Jesus was so intolerant of the Pharisees while he accepted people who lived debauched lifestyles--and tried to break them out of the stagnation rut that kept them in debauched lives. Had they broke out of stagnation, they would get their kicks out of creating value. The debauched life would stop on its accord.

I wonder what Jesus would say to the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger if he caught them writing such rubbish.

I can certainly agree here, I had a pioneer partner who was asked to give her experience; so she wrote it out and gave it to the elders so they should know what

she would say. They gave her a paper back with all this added in stuff, and changed it around, she replied "That's not how it happened, I can't conscientiously say this" to which they said

Thanks again Blondie for another entertaining and enlightening commentary.... glad you are back...

This was of special note to me:

To attend the Ministerial Training School in Canada, Yugu resigned from his secular work because his employer denied his request for a leave. "I don't regret it,” said Yugu. “In fact, if they had given me a leave of absence as a favor, they might have expected me to stay with the company permanently out of loyalty. But now I am available for whatever assignment I might yet receive from Jehovah.” To take advantage of training provided by God, many have willingly sacrificed what they once valued highly.--Luke 5:28.

Like Yugu, I attended this Monumental Waste of Time School. Unlike Yugu, I did NOT resign from my secular work....of course my employer did not deny my request for leave of absence either...I often wonder if I would have quit...probably so.... (I ended up losing that job a few months after my return)... I received an assignment 2 weeks after graduation...to the middle of nowhere in the US....and the local yokels resented there last MTS grad who up and left..... so no support to find work, housing, etc.... another grad from my class did go...I hear he is still there...6 years later... he did give up a lucrative career that he was able to pioneer with in his home congo...to do some menial janitorial work and sales jobs....

I told MTS Desk I couldnt accept the first assignment for several reasons, including the fact that I promised my employer I would give them at least 6 months once I returned.... I was given a different assignment closer to home (75 miles)....I was driving back and forth on Thur, Sat, and Sun for meetings and Field Circus....the local yokels didnt help me find work or a place to live...and I was criticized for not moving, ditching my good FT job...and going to Tue meetings and midweek Circus closer to home...and this was back when gas was less than $2/gal. The stress of that driving, pioneering, working full time...and being marginalized by the 2 local elders in my assigned congo finally caused me to drop about 25 pounds in 4 months...doc at first thought it was cancer...then he asked about my lifestyle...and told me: "you have to drop something or you will die of a heart attack..the stress is killing you..." I dropped my assignment after 4 months.... (LOL...if the buggers at bethel are monitoring this board...it would not be hard to figure out who I am now...)

I have heard so many stories of MTS grads who go to these middle of nowhere assignments, only to be resented (not "blessed by Jah") by the local elders... no work, living in someones basement....driving crap cars...no health insurance... you would think the least the Filthful ...(what the hell does Wizard call the FDS...LOL...) Slavebugger....could do is provide health insurance for these grads and some housing support.... ...all I ever got was 2 checks from Bethel during MTS (same allowance as Bethelites)...nothing more...

sacrifice is the key word there....but not by the GB... These type of "experience" laden WT lessons make my blood boil...

Kingdom publishers ....evangelizing spirit ....Kingdom preachers ....Kingdom proclaimers....experienced pioneers....missionary assignments.... house-to-house ministry....accomplish our work as evangelizers....successful evangelizers.

The only way to imitate Jesus according to the WTS is to preach the good news. As you stated and never mentioned in this study :

(James 2:15-16) 15 If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, 16 yet a certain one of YOU says to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,” but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it?

Didn't Jesus feed his hungry followers as well as preaching to them? (Mark 6:34-44)
