I loved American Band Stand. But sorry, when Soul Train hit, I loved it much better. That is until disco hit. That ruined it.

Which was it for you? This is the Soul Train verses Band Stand Poll.

I put in the first vote: S ooooooooooooooooooooooul Trainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Gotta love the dialogue at the beginning and the sideburns and clothing and in sync dance moves. I hate that they cut the end of the song though.

Dick was good though. This clip has Chubby Checker. It reminds me of Negro Day on the Corny Collins Dance Show in Hair Spray! It's got some other clips and interviews, too. Worth seeing. I suppose some of the younger posters won't know either of the shows. How sad for them.

    FHN,

I guess I preferred American Bandstand of the two, as my sisters liked to watch it. I preferred Midnight Special to either of them, since I have always been a nightowl.

    So that's

    1 for Soul Train

    1 for American Bandstand

I loved Midnight Special when I got to be a teenager. And Don Kircshner's Rock Concert.

both... Soul Train into the late 70's anyway. I noted a recent incarnation of that show...just not the same without Don C..

    You guys are funny.

I think my generation's called "What The Hell Was That?" hehe. I remember when my generation were definitely not Baby Boomers, then my daughter came along and was 'Generation"X"' (I think. It's really hard to keep up with all the labels), and now I'm kind of retroactively lumped in with the Boomers. Maybe I'm of the "Forgotten Generation". If only they'd let me forget, lol. wait... what was I talking about? oh yeah...

I liked them all, but especially Midnight Special with the Wolfman! "Clap for the Wolfman, he's gonna rate your record hi-igh..." lol. Like John, it was my sister who loved Bandstand at it's best, and so I did too. It was on a lo-o-ong time. I've always loved Motown and Soul Train was a wonderful showcase. I even liked Hullaballoo!(sp?), 'member that?

Seems I still like to watch people dance and it makes me smile.... PBS has been showing Ballroom Dancing and I'm in awe. Don't think I was ever able to move like that!

    good memories..... watkins
