Can you think of any other race of people (other than the Jews) that survived without a home land for 1800+ years?

I sure can't. And maintain a cohesive national identity. And multiple exiles followed by restoration to their homeland. With near universal enmity from other peoples in every time and place. Extraordinary.

Where is the Babylonian culture today? The ancient Greeks and Romans? The Egyptians? Those peoples are no more.

I recommend. I have 1st edition copy (1962) I bought at a thrift store. Apparently it belonged to a Westchester NY Synagogue originally. I've had it for years. It got me thinking of biblical history outside the WT mindcage.

    Dawg,

Not so fast,... Jesus wasn't the one that wrote Matt. 24 ! I think it was some guy named Bart, or Paul. Remember, Jesus didn't actually write anything. He read stuff a few times, or at least that's what Bart, or Paul wrote. Jesus didn't even own copy of the scriptures, he went to the synagogue like everybody else. So, don't blame Jesus... he didn't write anything down so that nobody could hold it up 2000 years later and say, "See, he was a false prophet!"

After all, Jesus was perfect, right? If he wanted everybody to know what he had to say, he would have invented the Internet. He's like, the teflon prophet... yes, his prophecies are true, it's OUR UNDERSTANDING that's wrong.

How about if jesus had said "you guys will see the end of the world.." Then would we sit around and argue about what he meant by "guys?" He was just a man (maybe not even that) please...

Next weeks argument? What the definition of "IS" is...

THanks Billy and Mr... I agree with you both... we really don't know exactly what the man really said in the first place, but if Matthew 24 is correct, then he's obviously a flase prophet, this is why... evn if he was talking about the destrucion of Jesuraslem in 70AD, he still said that immeadatly after he'd be descending from clouds and stars would fall and the like.

I don't think matthew's Jesus was anything more than a loon, the man himself may not have been but he was clearly a loon....

When I read post hoc fallacies, like when one poster said something abut the Jews not having a homeland, and still being a naiton... as if that proves Jesus? I really just stop talking to people like that. If they can't see on their own their logic is flawed without you having to point that out, then just move along as far as I'm concerned.

    Dawg:

A couple scriptures to consider on this subject:

    Matthew 25:14-18

14"Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. 15To one he gave five talents[a] of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. 17So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. 18But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.19 AFTER A LONG TIME the master of those slaves came...

    Matthew 28:19,20

19Therefore go and MAKE DISCIPLES OF PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Jesus said it would be a LONG TIME and the work that he gave them to accomplish would take them to the VERY END OF THE AGE.

What kind of prophet prophecies the end of the world, but does so in such a way that only a very small percentage of the population understands what he is saying? If Jesus was a true phrophet, speaking about events to take place in our time, why wouldn't he speak in a manner that would be clear to MOST of us? Instead we have to post threads and argue with each about what he possibly meant

Hermano: The kind of prophet that only resonates with a small group is a prophet that wants to be highly selective. Jehovah's Witnesses are mostly a small scale prototype of what will be the future of the Earth. When the world sees how things go for this special group they will be eager to follow their example.

Jesus is a figure of myth compiling several myths of the day. Prophet false/or real does not matter. Just rewrite the story and he is what ever the author wanted him to be.
