Maive....you do not sound like someone with an open mind.... Did you read the article I posted? The scientist is an expert. You and I are not. I do however, have a very powerful bs detector.....

Yes BTS, physics and geology majors are not climatologists. There might be some overlap but that is irrelevant. One needs to consult to specialists in a field.

Yes, I know who 'legendary' Kurzweil is. He is a futurist. Labeling him as legendary in a Senate report smacks of desperation.

I read the report because I have an open mind, not to discredit it.

All these disciplines are inter-related..... The use of the word legendary is unfortunate...but it is rediculous to dismiss the whole list of scientists because of 1 word. Looks like you just jumped on that word as an excuse to dismiss the whole list.... kind of like a dub looking to dismiss the evidence against the borg because of a technicality....

Wow.... I kinda' feel like a worldly person trying to reason with a dub....

Oops..l didn't address Kurzweil..... anyone can google him.... but I don't think you did until you were challenged. Which means that you probably didn't know the first thing about him until your bluff was called. The senate report wasn't desparate.. they didn't have to include him at all...there's already a substantial number of scientists who are not on board with the global warming religion. The senate report included him for a reason... You need to dig a little deeper.

P.S... if you had an open mind, you wouldn't have opened this thread with the blanket statement : "Climate Change: Yes the science is settled" Your mind is made up.....

BTS... scary article...but then it's meant to be.... and yet in spite of the absurdity of the article, there will be a lot of poor souls who will swallow it hook, line and sinker....

CB, please stop the personal attacks. Aside from one post that is all I have seen from you. Yes I know who Kurzweil is. For some reason you need to continue to assume I don't.

I trust that those reading this thread or trying to decide what to believe can do by comparing the latest UN IPCC report with the US Senate EPW report of Dec 21st.

Having an open mind and a strong opinion based on scientific evidence are not mutually exclusive.

True, but strong opinions are not the basis for public policy. You may agree with anthropogenic global warming based on the evidence and that is fine, but many do not, and this includes experts of the first rank. No, the science is not settled. Thank you, Burn

Didn't mean any personal attacks.... Came late to this discussion...not on the forum much these days...so how is it relevant that you hadn't heard from me before on this thread? I read the thread before I commented....decided to jump in...

I do think that the whole global warming frenzy has reached the status of a religious cult. Had my fill of cults years ago.

Having a strong opinion (whatever the basis) does not make it fact. The science is far from settled, so the statement you made is not fact. It is your opinion . You're entitled to your opinion...so are those who don't agree with you.

    Maive,

I occurred to me by the way you replied to me, that you may not have seen the article I posted one page back. It refers to a talk that Richard Lindzen, an MIT professor gave. He likens the whole global warming movement to a religion. He is well qualified in his field. The article is a good read...and the similarities to the borg are obvious.

[Lindzen] is well qualified in his field.

    ...which isn't religion.

Kinda hard to give a guy too much credibility that is pufifng on a cigarette while telling you smoking isn't all that connected to cancer.

I would find him a little more credible on the GW issue if he wasn't getting funding from the oil industry.

He apparetnly does agree that GW is in fact occuring. At least in that sense, climate change is real, according to him.
