Covering Your Tracks

I left the WT in 1982 seeing them for what they were long before the age of the Internet. I bought my first computer in 1997 with Windows 95 and Netscape 3 for a web browser.

I was naturally curious about the WT and did a search for information. The information was overwhelming and helped to fill in the areas that I was not aware of. (56K modem)

The Problem.. Netscape 3 kept a list of the last 10 sites or so that you had visited. I was panicked that my Wife (dub for life) would see the list and that would cause me more problems that it was worth.

I reloaded the computer several times (system restore) to cover my tracks. I eventually found that I could go into Netscape system files and manually delete the offending URLs A poor but workable solution.

Fast forward to today. My Wife is still a "Happy Dub" and I am still covering my tracks.( Please don't post telling me to get a divorce) Now however I use http://www.browsertools.net/IE-Privacy-Keeper/ to do it for me. It is a lot easier and runs automatically.

Anybody out there still in hiding and have to be concerned about what is on your computer?? Friends..Family..Parents..?? It is a struggle.

Kudos to you Poztate for not taking the easy way out and sticking to your wife. Who knows one day............she will realize too.

I find CCleaner useful, it does a lot more than just clear out one's internet history, it can also detect and fix problems on one's computer.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

I primarily use one computer that my wife doesn't use MUCH. But the main computer
is the only one hooked to a printer, so we both use that one. I also use a computer
    outside of the home.

Except for the one outside of the home, I have to delete my history at the end of each
session to make sure JWD is gone. An expert could still tell that I was there, but not
a regular user like me or my wife.

I also keep another window open when the wife is in the home, so I can just close the
JWD if she walks up, then I am on the other window. I spend more time than I want to
on email and news when the wife is home, so she thinks I enjoy reading that kind of
    stuff on the net.

I use that too and it does do a good job. I still like Privacy Keeper better running in the background and not having to ever think about it. Is it my imagination or does CC use more memory resources ?

Just thought of a funny story relating to that. I was on JWD when my Wife walked in the door. I shut down in haste but she was suspicious.

She got the idea it must have been a Porn site I was on and I didn't say or do anything that might think she was wrong..

I never hid JWD from my hubby, I really hoped he'd look in my history and see it and read. He did, and now he's here!
