Why do they need to be a corporation?

    Yes, it does. But it also provides certain tax advantages and legal protections for the "enterprise."

    Rather like the recent split of the WTS into three different divisions (I forget what they are...perhaps someone can post a bit more about it?).

    So they dont get personally sued when the light flickers.

    It's to keep the corruption at arms length from the cronies running it.

    the idea of corporations actualy began with churches so it was only natrual. Nothing sinister in that by it's self.

    My point was there are other advantages to being a corporation other than just making money for the shareholders.

    Could the organization own property if it wasn't a corporation? Wouldn't the property be owned by individuals otherwise?

    I agree that there are significant CYA aspects to it, but there are property-ownership ones, too.
