...Why such interest sexually in young children? They have been promoted by the media as sex objects. Advertisers pose them with their products, provocatively so, with windblown hair and pouting, promising lips. The young especially attract men who are afraid of adult women, psychiatrists say. The modern woman, the liberated female, equal and even a competitor, intimidates these insecure men. But the young girls, sexily attired and posed, look vulnerable, are nothing to fear, and are therefore inviting to such men. Presented as sex objects, these youngsters become sex targets.

If I am to buy into this garbage, then what about the pedophiles who go after boys?

Even if you buy the fatuous claim that, 20 years ago people did not know about the emotional impact of child sexual abuse, surely if the Watchtower Society really is God's channel, it should have been at the forefront of concern for the most vulnerable members of its worldwide congregations. Instead, the Watchtower trails way behind the rest of the world regarding the convenient sudden relaisation about the ill effects of abuse.

What a pathetic turnaround! Even more than 20 years ago, the Watchtower has gleefully exposed child abuse in other churches. It now feebly defends its own shocking inaction in keeping children safe from predators in supposedly 'clean' congregations.

Just out of curiosity. Legally speaking, could it be construed that the JW reporting policy on pedophilia could, in some states, be considered obstruction of justice? Is this something someone could get indicted for? Or has this case already been made?

To show you how paradoxical the Watchtower society is, they speak out of both sides of their mouth contradictory garbage while keeping the middle part of their mouth shut. A really deceptive ploy on their part. But the jig is up , more of these molestation cases will come out and embarrass them and cost them more in " worldwide donations ", just wait and see, this is only the beginning ! The WTBS will come tumbling down like a brick wall as more of these cases are revealed

And parents have always known the seriousness of child molestation. THAT IS WHY IN THE OLD DAYS THEY KILLED THEM!

    JK

My wife constantly advocates that today in her incense over the crime. Though I tend to be less capital punishment oriented for this, I believe that physical castration [perhaps combined with chemical] would and should be used. Same for rapists.

    Jeff

I should have stated 'same for adult rape', as child molestation is certainly rape.

Actually, they have been out in front. When this all hit the fan inside the Catholic Church, the WT were in the forefront of throwing mud at them. Then -- you meant for its own members, didn't you? You're so right.

Pseattle: could it be construed that the JW reporting policy on pedophilia could, in some states, be considered obstruction of justice? Is this something someone could get indicted for?

I suppose it could. Why would their legal team advise, in states of mandatory reporting, that such reporting be done anonymously by an elder from a pay phone , divulging no details as to the identity of the elder or his congregation.

Carla: this writer been reading some romance novels?

Right on, Carla. I wonder if they didn't comission Frank (Mickey ) Morrison Spillane back out of retirement? This famous crime and sex novelist writer became one of the JW's early on, and was DF'd for that behavior a time or two. Wikipedia says, Spillane became a Jehovah's Witness in 1951 ( NPR Interview). He died July 17 , 2006 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina from pancreatic cancer .

Near death, he claimed JW status.

well said JK, "in the old days he was known as the bogeyman" and he was dealt with if caught.

I knew a chap at work years ago who told me when his boy was young a pedo' tried to abuse him,

anyway the father broke into the pedo's house and waited for him to show up, lucky for both he did not turn up, coz this happened when murder was a capital offence.

Thanks for these quotes and links. I've just had a JW throw that "we didn't know back then" reply to me. These WT quotes will come in quite handy!
