I saw this when it came to LA. It was awesome.

    Snowbird,

I read that they removed all of the major organs that the dead person would need in the next life and sealed them in canopic jars. Then, they shoved a hook up the nose and pulled the brain out through the nose.

They then covered the body in embalming juice and herbs and wrapped it up like a burrito.

The body was then put in a very fancy box inside a box in a box in a box in another box and into a tomb along with everything (including guts in jars and material items it owned) that the soul would need on the journey to the netherworld.

Sometimes, they would float the box in a box in a box on a raft down the Nile to symbolically float it to the next life. It could have also been for easier transportation to the tomb as the layer of boxes must have been really heavy. King Tut was found in about three fancy boxes.

    Chenoa:)

I think the computer rendition of Tut is rather handsome. This whole thing is fascinating!

    White Dove, you are good.

I will check more about it when I get off work.

I read somewhere that the smell of the herbs and spices still lingered when they opened the final box.

    Snowbird,

Regarding the picture you show of King Tut, I saw another type of reconstruction of him that doesn't really look like the picture you showed.

The one I am talking about shows him with a wider nose and he is not so good looking as the picture you show.

I think these reconstructions are only an 'average' of what a person might look like.

The one I showed is based on what his actual face looks like.

The other pictures were based on the golden mask that covered his face.

He is called The Golden Boy; his is such a compelling story.

He looks like he died happy at least.

There seems to be good evidence that he was actually murdered.

There was this programme about him, and what he looked like and the shape of his body (I know, im off work with nothing better to do!!)

Well, apparently all these drawings of him and his family showed them with massive bellies and hips and they thought it was some kind of artistic licence to show he was royal. Then they did CAT scans on his embalmed body and found he really did have this weird big hip / big belly shape.

Put it this way, you wouldnt climb over your best mate to get to him...

I believe the consensus is that he died from complications following a thigh injury.

A BBC documentary showed that he was likely whacked on the head, probably by the High Priest who took over his position. Tut's wife tried to write for help knowing she'd have to marry the High Priest. She was done in, also.
