That was interesting. He was in Vienna recently too and gave a talk to a congregation there where he said similar hardline stuff.

That sort of rubbish makes me so angry!

A couple of years ago there was an Awake article praising the work of nurses.

How do they think that an individual gets to become a good qualified nurse? By going on the ministry? Cleaning the KH? I think not!

Did all the members of their Legal Services Committee obtain their qualifications by attending the theocratic ministry school??

(Where do the GB think they would be without qualified lawyers with no morals???!!!)

    Hyprocrites the lot of them!

    This video is sickening.

I am now 50 years old and pursuing my on-line degree in Business Management because I and many of my sisters and brothers (there are eight of us) listened to the Borg's garbage about not going to college back in the 70's.

Fortunately, three of my four sisters (three (3) still in the Borg) decided to go to college years later. One is a Registered Nurse Managing a Medical Facility in Queens, NY and the other when to college for a while to become a nurse, but stopped due to personal challenges. Still, I am glad she decided to at least make an effort to go back to school. My (smart) twin sister was DF many years ago and saw the corruptness and hypocrisy of the Borg early on and went to college and obtained her Registered Nurse degree and currently has her own business as a medical consultant for Life Insurance Companies. Two of my three brothers are going back to college. None of my brothers are in the Borg anymore.

My husband, who was a MS (he is from Barbados) obtained his GED, then obtained his Associates Degree in Computer Technology. Even though right now he is not employed in job yet using his degree, I am so proud of his decision to go college.

This video is a classic example of the religious, cult, propaganda this organization has enleased on its members to control their actions and money.....................

Thank you, Ancientofdays, for this! It appears the Witness leadership saves the strongest statements against college for lectures. I guess they know that to be this blunt in print would not look so good. Having this clip is priceless is showing the evilness of what the current leadership is doing to JW youth.

Going to college or not may be a reflexion of your faith,

    or lack of your faith,

and it may indicate how present the imminence of the Great Tribulation is in your mind.

    What is undoubtable is that

    the time left is reduced.

as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:29.

If you are currently going to college,

why don't you meditate in prayer

on the possibility of dropping out and doing something better?

But for us, who scrutinize the meaning of world events

in the light of Bible prophecy,

    there are more worthy reasons

for not putting a worldy career first in our lives.

We could liken ourselves to someone who sees a building

    with a sign that reads:

"This company is running out of business".

Would you apply for a job there?

    Of course not.

And if we were working for such a company,

we would wisely look for a job elsewhere.

Well, on all the institutions of this world

lies a sing (sic) reading 'imminent liquidation'.

    The end is near.

Yes, the Bible assures us that the world is passing away.

Therefore we will be wise and will not imitate those

who are an integral part of it.

Now you have listened to the advice.

    What will you do now?

Some advocate going to college by citing the example

of some elders children who are attending college or that did so [in the past].

We are not able, nor willing, to tell you what you should do.

Your parents and you should make a decision.

We are not the masters over your faith.

However, the Faithful and Discreet Slave has the responsibility

    to warn against spiritual dangers

and to encourage to put Kingdom interests first.

So, the Slave discourages from going to college for a long period of time.

I have often times heard experiences of individuals

who were about to complete their college programs,

and who dropped out when they learned the Truth.

Some other baptized individuals have turned down scholarships.

    What will YOU do?

What decisions will you make? Will you refuse or not?

Will you get a university education or not?

You will be accountable to Jehovah for this.

We would like to praise those in the audience

who dropped out of college when they accepted the Truth,

[as we praise] all those who, after listening to this talk,

    will make the same decision.

Maybe you still want to advocate the possibility of going to college.

You may say: "You see, Brother X went to college,

and now he is serving in the congregation and is also a pioneer".

True, he may have survived college, so to speak.

But what follows is a true experience of a young man

who suffered from a compulsive disorder which

made him wash his hands over and over again,

    even 100 times a day.

This disorder discouraged him so much,

that one day he decided to commit suicide.

    He bought a rifle,

    put it in his mouth,

    and pulled the trigger.

The bullet, however, didn't kill him,

but instead perforated the part of his brain

that was responsible for his compulsive disorder.

He survived and after that he managed to live a normal life.

    Yes, it's true,

    he survived,

but would you recommend that other people imitate what that young man did?

    Similarly, some have survived college,

but would you recommend that to others?

Instead of investing in a higher education,

it would be advisable to grow in the knowledge of Jehovah.

In order to start knowing the Bible better,

we must read the Bible every day.

    Every day.

    Are we doing that?

Thanks for posting this. Thanks VM44 for listing the subtitles.
Here's the short version from the subtitles:

Going to college [is] a reflexion of a lack of your faith.

If you are currently going to college, drop out and do something better.
(Sell Watchtower literature as an unpaid volunteer.)

    'imminent liquidation'.

The end is near. (I can't believe he would say such a stereotyped phrase)
    The end is 'imminent."

Yes, the [Governing Body tells us that the] Bible assures us that the world is passing away.

Now you have listened to the advice. [We stop short of calling it a command.]

What will you do now? [Our language for "How will you obey the command, now?"]

[Stop looking at] the [bad] example of some elders children who are attending college or that did so [in the past].
We are not able, nor willing, to tell you what you should do [unless you will stay in the cult after we tell you].

We are not the masters over your faith [but really ARE].

So, the Slave discourages from going to college [for a long period of time].

    Drop out. Turn down scholarships.

You will be accountable to Jehovah['s Organization] for this.

"Do you NOT trust in Jehovah to take care of you? Asked by a guy who has everything paid for him by donations from R & F members who HAVE JOBS!

This is disgusting. My favorite thing to talk to my JW friends about.

    YOU UNFAITHFUL SINNER.

    MENTAL MANIPULATION.

THE REST OF YOU ALL, SHAME ON YOU. YOU ARE SCREWED.

We are not able to or willing to telly you what you should do. Your parent and you should make a decision. We are not the masters over your faith.

DON'T WANT TO BE LIABLE FOR YOUR DEATH AT ARMAGGEDON.

I would love to see more of these talks on youtube. I'd like to see how other assemblies have given this same talk and compare. Probably the same bullsh%$. But it'll make me more sure i made the right decision.
