"Millions now living" spent too much time at meetings and in field service. They weren't allowed to go to farther than high school. They weren't supposed to work too much. Many are without any sort of savings. Plenty were pressured into not having a family. I feel for all of them. Who wouldn't be depressed?

I wish I could have stood up to the lies like you have done!
I was too dumb, so dumb while in the borg.
THE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY IS A SHAM RELIGION PEOPLE....WAKE UP!!!
IT IS A BUSINESS! A CORPORATION TO MAKE MONEY! WATCH THE MONEY FLOW>>>>>>>>>>>IT GOES ONE WAY>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>TO BROOKLYN!!!!
WHERE IS ITS CHRISTIAN CHARITY?
WHERE IS ITS LOVE AND JOY?
WHY ARE THE MEMBERS SO UNHAPPY?
WHY IS NOBODY SINGING AT THE KINGDUM HALL?
WHY IS NOBODY VISITING THE SICK AND ELDERLY?
WHY ARE THE OLDER ONES DEPRESSED?
WHY ARE PEOPLE LEAVING IT IN DROVES IF IT IS SUCH A WONDERFUL LOVING RELIGION?
Just a few thought provoking questions -

This sadness and depression are what I see in older folks. It isn't "this system" that depresses them, it is "this religion" and its false promises.
If they would actually preach the message of Christ and act like Christians and start giving to others they would have joy. This is a religion based solely on survival, and survival is a primal and selfish instinct. A life lived on instinct must end up empty. The leaders of this religion bear the responsibility. I feel sorry for the older ones. The younger ones seem a lot smarter to me. Certainly the ones that are leaving are a hell of a lot smarter than i ever was.
Thanks for the post.

So many of the older dubs are an enigma (Those that lived through 1975 and back). They speak of the end coming anytime but yet don't really live their lives that way.
My JW in-laws at dinner one night had a serious talk with us, their children and spouses, about planning for their final years. They were both right at retirement age. They knew that they would soon be trying to make ends meet with a limited income. They spoke of in time selling the big old rambling house and the extra vehicles that they didn't need and finding a nice apartment or townhouse that required little upkeep. They spoke of their purchasing insurance to help take care of them if they became infirmed or would pay for the funeral when their time came. They were setting up a multi year plan to go from owning two houses, several cars, a camper, a shop full of expensive tools to being almost possesion free, vehicle free, debt free by the time they were 80 years old.
It was a sensible discussion about sensible things that needs to be thought about and discussed when you get to a certain age.
Fifteen minutes later as the subject digressed into the bitching of the high cost of medical care and how the world was going to hell in a hand basket, my father-in-law said out of nowhere, "The way things are going, this old system cannot last another 10 years" and commented how there will be no health plans to worry about in the new system.
My mother-in-law agreed and the rest the family nodded their heads in agreement. I could almost see the cloud of haze come over their eyes as the cult-think took over their thought process.
It was truly a surreal moment.

You wrote: "She is still convinced that the end is imminent, using the Freddy Franz explanation about how long after Adam, Eve was created."
That's the easiest thing in the world to flip. The Witnesses teach that Jesus created everything except himself. That means Jesus created Adam AND EVE. Jesus said he didn't know when the end would come. IF it was tied to the date of the creation of EVE, Jesus would know when that was. Right?
The end can't be tied to anything created after Jesus because if it was, he would know. . . and he doesn't know. -

Gary, I am always impressed at how intelligent your comments are. I have NEVER considered this reasoning (in this case anyway) and I will never need to hear another refutation of this point again. Your reasoning on this totally and utterly dismantles the "time between Adam & Eve" theory.
As much as all of this is helping me it is ultimately leading me to the most difficult and trialsome time of my life. I need clean cut reasoning like this to give to my wife and family. Anything too deep, and I wont be able to get my point out before being shut down. Keep these coming!!

I enjoyed your post. Yes, it is a sensible discussion about sensible things that needs to be discussed, well..by thinking people anyway. I am a working person playing a game of catch-up because I didn't save enough money and am worried about the future. As far this being a topic for sensible discussion, it seems to me that only responsible people are thinking about this. Now, don't take this the wrong way but I have some friends who are active JWs on disability and I don't hear them being too concerned about this. Maybe it is because they are not in the work force. I love them dearly but I don't get the sense they are too concerned.
As far as other JWs who let the cloud of haze come over them and don't want to deal with this, I would not want to be anywhere near these people when reality hits them.

Ha ha, Gary, you're not keeping up with Jehovah's gallooping chariot!
The official answer to your challenge is something like this: "Well sure, Jesus didn't know, at the time he spoke those words, when Armageddon would come. But since he's become king in 1914, Jehovah has let him in on the secret. Now he knows."
I'm pretty sure the above was in a QFR or a study article sometime in the last 10 years.
