Thank you all for sharing in my moment of joy. As a dub I was so conditioned to not really "live".
Always look over your shoulder. Who am I going to stumble? What will the
window washerselders say? This phone call was SOOOOO cathartic I can't even begin to describe how GOOD it felt.
OK, now for a little rear deflector shield housekeeping, you know, in case the elders are lurking :

I am so glad thet your brother could be so forgiving.
I didn't say my sibling was my "BROTHER" now did I? Then again, Philadelphia has always been one of my favorite cities.

Philadelphia is a nice city. Sorry about the slip up OM. I am the youngest of three brothers and it seems I may have been living vicariously through your story. Either way, I am elated for you.
Thanks,

Open Mind,
I, too, am wiping away a few tears over this great turn of events. I am not in the least bit surprised by your siblings reaction of welcoming you with open arms. He or she understands the cult thinking you've been influenced by and I'll bet they had a smile on their face for a while !
I'm not DF'd either, just a lowly fader, yet I've missed all my children's' weddings, births of my grandchildren and all other important family events due to shunning.
Life really is way too short to waste it in this ridiculous religion.
Good for you for getting an ... 'Open Mind'...

That was very touching to read. Keep up with your communication with your brother. How exciting to open a new door for you and him. Keep us posted.

Hey everybody, if you really want a good cry, this post by Nicolaou will probably send up the value of Kleenex stocks.

He kindly PMed me with it. It was posted here over 5 years ago. It's the story of him losing his younger brother to "Public Disassociation" when they were teens.
Man, I can't believe what a wuss I've felt like lately. I've cried buckets over the last week. You'd think I was going through male menopause. (Maybe I am ) Nah, I'm not quite that far along yet.
If you don't feel like clicking on it, I'll post the most heart rending portion down below here a few lines.
PLOT SPOILER. DON'T CONTINUE DOWN THE PAGE IF YOU WANT TO READ THE WHOLE STORY. CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE FOR THE WHOLE STORY. OTHERWISE, SCROLL DOWN FOR WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE MOST HEARTWRENCHING EXCERPT.

V"I came home from the meeting the night the announcement was made. I went up to the room I shared with my brother and he asked me what happened - I told him.
I'll never forget that night. We were both just kids, he was fourteen and I was almost sixteen. He picked up his green hardback bible, clutched it to his chest and cried himself to sleep.I lay there in the dark not knowing how to comfort my kid brother, I was the 'good one' and I was sure my brother was going to die at Armageddon very soon. That night changed everything between me and my brother for the next 20 years."
Thanks again Nicolaou for sharing such traumatic memories with us.
