I don't get to watch this series on it's scheduled night, but I do keep up by watching it on the Internet. This year a lot has been revealed, but like always, a lot has not. Basically it seems the island has some special powers, a box that gives you what ever you want, and people see this Ben guy as a leader. I wonder if he came from the box, as he said he was born there. Anyway, it appears that the island is impossible to find without a beacon that was fried at the end of last season when Locke let the countdown finish. It seems that the man who was in the bunker, sees all this as something that already happened and even traveled back in time and is trying to prevent the death of the band guy. So it all seems to be coming together, right? Well what about a few missing pieces.

    1. Why do the others take the children, and what is up with the signal fire they light before coming?

    2. What is up with the black smoke, that killed the black guy. That has never been explained, only the final words of "Your next?"

    3. How did the "others" move so quickly from their town to where the plane pieces crashed, when it took the actual survivors days to cover that distance?

    4. What was up with that map Locke saw on the door to the bunker, that could only be seen with the black light.

    5. Where are the other passengers that were taken, did they get put on the sub and sent home. Jack saw them on the other island, but it was almost a dream sequence and you could not tell if it was real or not.

    6. What was up with the guys at the listening post in the arctic at the end of last season who called the bunkers guy girlfriend?

    So, any thoughts?

As far as I can tell, just this season. I think they want you to buy or rent season one and two on DVD. I heard the other day, that the creators said it was only going to last two more seasons. So I would bet there is more head scratching to come.

a box that gives you what ever you want

suddenly when I read that...things started to make sense.....it must be where ''freckle's'' horse and that white polar bear, and that old abandoned car...and the other ''hallucinations'' that the main characters see in the jungle come from. It must be because it's what they want to see. Lock wanted to walk again, the island made that happen...as for charlie almost dying all the time....maybe he will die? if that guy (sorry cant remember his name) cant prevent it....anyways, been interesting watching it...

I was losing interest badly until the last two episodes this season... I'm glad to see they're getting back on track... for now.

The "box" was a metaphor for the island, not a literal box.

1> Probably due to a child's natural power of imagination and creativity, and the ease with which they're minds are molded. Dunno about ths signal fire.

    2> Security system. Unknown otherwise.

3> Good question. But you're assuming they were all currently at their "town". I'm curious how the one that met up with the tail end so quickly was already wearing "Others" clothing. You know, the ripped up crap? Unless, you know, they were expecting them.

4> A map of the island with its various sights... and sites... link, link, link and link...

5> Doubtful any were sent home. Probably a bit brainwashed.

6> They worked for Desmond's ex-fiance, who is looking for Desmond, whose father seems to have some sort of involvement with the Dharma Initiative or its... opponents (the hostiles).

At the begining of this season, they show the woman who is friends with Jack doing some sort of a book reading club. They hear something, and walk out to see Ben looking in to the sky. He turns to the two men who would greet the survivors and gives them instructions of what to do. What is where I get confused, those peices were on the other side of the island. It would take days to get there, and they only took like an hour or less. Although, I think the tail section crashed closer to the town and I don't remember Ethan showing up in the original crash of the rest of the plane. He kind of worked his way in later. In any case, there are a lot of quesions.

Also, the tailies were being grabbed without anyone seeing the people grabbing the, they were just gone. I have not found the others to be that sly. Also, the kids that were taken were talking through the jungle. Where are those kids?

    -----------------------------------

    1. I think they take the children because they are infertile. I think this is why they recruited Juliet to the island, she is a fertility specialist. Also, I think they wanted to explore Walt's 'special' abilities. Or, it could be that they took Walt so that Ben could use him to get to his spinal surgeon, Jack. These are my assumptions, not based on anything we have definitely been 'told' yet in the series.

    2. That's the security system which is one of the huge unexplained items of the series.

    3. We don't know, but the Others had boats. They could have used the boats or the submarine.

    4. That map outlined the 7 Dharma research stations explained in the Dharma video and where they were located. And some more stuff if you're really into screen captures, blowups, and lots of theories.

    5. That was not a dream sequence. That was the stewardess from the original flight, Cindy. She disappeared in season 2 on the Tailies trek back to the original survivors. The children that were stolen from the beach were with her (notice the teddy bear), and they were watching Jack in the cage when he woke up. Later in that episode, they were seen attending Juliet's 'trial' . I can't remember any other passengers that were taken other than Cindy and the children, unless they were 'redshirts' from the beach.

    6. It appears that they are working for Penny, Desmond's girlfriend. She is trying to find Desmond, apparently. Penny's father works for Widmore Industries. We see Widmore and Dharma references all over the place in flashbacks, in Ben's refrigerator last week, etc. Widmore is also the company that recruited Juliet.

It has yet to be definitely explained how the groups of Widmore, Dharma, and the Others relate to each other. Although at this point it does seem that the Others were the Hostiles mentioned in a recent episode. In other words, they were hostile to the Dharma Initiative. Are the Others a group that was there before Dharma, after Dharma, or are they a subset of Widmore and some Dharma people who wanted out? Are the Others all from Widmore Industries? We don't know the specifics of these 3 groups yet, but these are some theories.

Here is The Big Secret: There is no big secret!! The writers make it all up mere hours before they shoot it.

The TV show LOST is created by J.J.Abrams who gave us Felicity and Alias (and the last Mission Impossible film.)

The network wanted a zany Gilligan's Island type show. Abrams converted it into an X-files style drama that was metaphorically about people whose lives are "Lost" in many ways.

Abrams had several influences. Among them Michael Crichton's SPHERE. (The box that grants wishes is the sphere).

The TV show is written on two levels simultaneously.

Level 1 is for the casual viewer.

Level 2 is for hardcore mystery buffs. Easter Eggs are in each episode to reward sharp viewers who pause, rewind and view small details that fit the overall picture.

LOST producers monitor fan websites and discussion groups regulary. They plant false story "leaks" to mislead. They plant news stories that are false. They create phony websites that seem to reflect actual connections to events on the series. There are Podcasts from producers and writers designed to "reveal"/conceal simultaneously where the show is headed.

There is a pre-written ending for the series if anything goes wrong and they have to stop production. Abrams absolutely does not want an X-files style rotten ending that ties nothing up at the end.

The deeper you wish to explore the series; the more is there for you to learn. But, tantalizingly; it is designed to only lead you to further mysteries like a nested kachinka doll.

It is one of my favorite TV programs. I read the magazine LOST, visit websites, listen to podcasts and nose around on the web. It is great fun.
