This week I went to Bethel

This week I had a business appointment that was in the area of the German branch office. After the appointment I thought by myself: "Why not go there and grab the latest magazines. If there is something controversial I can put it on the web and they may wonder why the information flows so fast."

So I did. When I arrived I noticed that all the parking lots were empty. Obviously, it was after closing hours. I stayed in the car and thought what to do. I decided to approach the janitor. At the German branch, the janitor has his own separate place in front of the main building. There was a man and a woman.

I approached them "Excuse me please. I have not been here for some time. Is it possible to get a copy of the new book if you did not get one at the convention?" They happened to be a married couple and replied:"In general, yes, but at the moment everything is closed." He looked around but there was not copy. The wife said: "I get you my copy from the room." I did not want to stay there for that long and denied: "Oh, I do not want to cause you any inconvenience." - "It is not a problem. I can get a new one easily.

She went and the man offered me a seat. At that moment I began to feel uncofortable: what if he asks specifics about current things (I am up to date due to the Internet but what if I say things I am not ought to know?) or about my home congregation.

We were doing some small talk. I said what I did for a living. He mentioned my car plate hich showed where I came from. I said to myself "Please do not know anyone from there!"

I felt it took hours until his wife returned with the new book. He also gave me a new Awake!-magazine.

I was so relieved when I left the property. On my way home I also felt a bit sad because this couple was really nice and friendly and for me it is really difficult to meet nice people outside the Borg.
I was thinking that they would not be that nice if they knew that I am an apostate from the Internet. I would also not return because the price of freedom is too high and I cannot relate to the strange teaching anymore. But sad I was. A little.

Yes, good thing you didn't reveal anything. Conditional love is harsh.

I would have felt the same. Its kind of sad to see decent people being brainwashed.

I tend to avoid all witnesses because I cant cope if they are being nice, and I cant cope if they are being pedantic and mean! I just pretend I havent seen them. I guess you could say I shun them all!

katiekitten, I was thinking if I should do it and afterwards I was thinking why I had done it.

It was not about that bloody book. It was a test of courage for me and a situation to meet my fears.

But it was good to talk to my wife after that.

I know how you feel, I am always asking my ex husband for the latest magizines or books and he gives them to me but if he knew I had ulterior motives he wouldn't like it and sometimes I feel like a real rat knowing what I do with them. But heck I don't want people becoming witnesses so if I can prevent a person from being one it is good.

    Hi GermanXJW

You faced your fears and you're stronger for it!! I face my fear whenever I tell a jw I'm no longer going to meetings (but that's all I say). Nothing has happened and I'm now less fearful.

I can understand that - just to know they have no hold over you any more is a good feeling. Some things you just have to do even if they make you feel uncomfortable.

    Talking about courage and fear...

I always tell my wife to never hide herself behind the door when the JWs (very rarely) come knocking.

I reason with her that she has nothing to fear. The JWs are the ones to fear if anyone. "You're the master of the house, not the dog", I joke.

I love to see the fear and discomfort on JWs face and have no problem facing them on they come. Fear no longer!
