My preaching effort at the DC

  My wife decided to go to the DC for the Sunday. Anyway she needed a lift home so I had to go and pick her up at the end. I managed to park right outside one of the exits. I had to wait half an hour, so I sat on a chair waiting whilst people filed past me, and then wandered around for a while. I had a tshirt with 'pornstar' on it so it should have been easy to identify me as not a believer.

  Several of my friends walked past, too scared to come up and talk, but smiling and discreetly waving. Some glared. Several other people that I only slightly know must not have known I am d/f so called out hi as they walked past.

  One brother (who I hardly can remember) came up to me all overjoyed, asking "weren't you in Bethel?" By this time I had a jacket covering my tshirt. I spent a few minutes chewing the fat with him. Eventually I told him that I am not a JW anymore.

  Him: that's sad

  Me; Oh no, it is great. Actually I run one of those websites that the DC said you are not allowed to look at

  Him: Um

  Me: You should do the research, It's amazing what you will learn.

  Him: Um, well each to their own. Bye.

  Did wifey know about this little conversation? How do the other jw's treat her with you for a husband? (meaning apostate)

  My wife is not too strong anymore, so lets me do my own thing. She is good in that she does not believe in telling others what to do, which does not make her a very good Witness.

  Because of her sweetness JWs do not feel threatened by her so still talk to her at meetings. However, she never gets an invitation anywhere. We used to do the most entertaining of any family at our hall. Our house was where all the going away parties, engagement parties etc were held. But when our meeting attendance fell, well before I was disfellowshipped, we stopped getting invitations. People thought we were just working too hard, but quickly stopped including us. I think that opened my wifes eyes.

  Oh, yes. I was there at one time. Same experience.

  I'm glad I didn't even know the DCs were on already, they normally wait until a nice sultry spring weekend. They must have really wanted to spread the word that armageddon is due any minute now.

  I can relate...

  Even though we're just 'faders', we've experienced much the same. It is a rare instance to have old JW friends over for anything. Occasionally I get comments from my wife like, "back when we had friends" or "I'd like to redecorate, if anybody was ever to see it again".

  We've made new friends but not to the point of always entertaining at our home as we used to do with the dubs.

  It takes a while to build up a group that know each other. I used to make the same comments as your wife. "back when we had friends" as for about a year we hardly had a single person in our house. I have managed to make a number of friends over the years (secretly whilst a Dub) and now we have started having parties and dinners again.
