It's interesting among Mormons ( they encourage education very much) those that attend universities and graduate, they are most likely to stay in their religion then those that have less education.

Just the opposit of JW's, the more they go to school the more likely they fall out because they finally are away from the indoctrination and able to use their thinking ability.

If any dub kids want to go to college, down in Liberal Dubland (aka California) we can go to college.

Isn't that the truth. There are a few advantages to living in this socialist paradise. - I rememeber what the instructor said at the orientation I went to, "Now I know this is California, but there might be a few people in here that have not filled out the FAFSA application because they do not like getting handouts. But don't think about it like that. Think about it like the State and Federal Government thinks about it - it is not a handout, it is an investment in you. They know that with a degree the odds are that you will get a much better job, and pay much more in taxes."

In California you can get the BOG waiver (Board of Governors) - this pays your "tuition"

You can also get the Federal "Pell Grant" - up to four thousand FRN's per year.

Then there is the Cal Grant. And other m iscellaneous aid - not to mention student loans.

All of the above is money that does not have to be paid back, as it is a "Grant."

And it is all done on a sliding scale.

Kudos on graduating! I'll be doing that in a year or so myself, I hope. Before I just gave up and left The Truth(TM), I still was hell-bent on going to school. I had made all these compromises with my mother, all of which were exceedingly stupid. I had to go to a school in the same town where we lived, I had to study something that would have practical applications in the new world, and I had to study something that would equip me for a job market where there aren't a lot of applicants so I'd be guaranteed employment and my degree wouldn't be completely useless. Now I'm going to school on the other side of the state, studying something I love--practical applications not withstanding--and preparing to enter one of the most competetive job markets today. Doesn't mean I still don't get crap from my family. Just hang in there.

Just remind them of their attitude when they want to borrow money.

This is only for community colleges.

You can also get the Federal "Pell Grant" - up to four thousand FRN's per year.

This is the easiest to get, but is as you said on a sliding scale depending on your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and your class level.

Then there is the Cal Grant. And other m iscellaneous aid - not to mention student loans.

Ever since the budget crisis they severely cut back on CAL Grants, only a few thousand get those out of the whole State now.

btw, "socialist paradise"? lol. Are you on crack or something? Or just a flatlander?

They don’t like us going to college

Lest Satan’s world should us seduce

It is only now that I acknowledge

It’s to keep us real dumb and obtuse

Keep dusting and sweeping, stay in our safekeeping

From birth till you’re long in the tooth

Don’t plan to retire; the end will transpire

Armageddon will come, it’s “The Truth!”

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Let’s be resolute

Tho the Truth changes from day to day

It’s the Truth, it’s the Truth!

    Tho it might not compute

We’ll call it “The Truth” anyway!

Lets just say that the state I came from was free compared to California. If you are born and raised in California, it is much harder for you to see certain things. But when you are raised elsewhere, and then get dropped in all at once, it can be a shock.

And after all, it didn't get its nickname of The Free Peoples Democratic Republic of Kalifornia for nothing. LOL.

    Congrats.

I'm a computer software engineering major (comp sci) and graduating in two years.

Being a witness and going to college is an extremely hard thing to do. I think the way the "brothers" and "sisters" treated me at the meetings did more damage to my "spirituality" more than JWD would have ever managed. In the end, i just hope they see that they wasted their lives away...

the only thing good I can get out of it is wanton nudity and drugs. Now granted, if that's what your are looking for in college, you can find it. But you probably won't be there for long, since college is first and foremost to learn.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

where can you find this? please let me know! :-)

seriously, congratulations! I have a BS in Computer Science, and I'm winding my way towards my PhD.
