It seems that the UN thing is a sensitive issue with the JWs! When my wife wrote her elder father about the WTS affiliation with the UN a couple of years back, and expressed that she didn't feel that it the right thing to do,her father used that letter against her in a judicial committee meeting. The letter proved to be the necessary 2nd witness that the local elders needed to disfellowship her.Up to that point, they had the testimony of only one witness whom she had mentioned the UN thing to. With friends like that, who needs enemies!?
A year back my wife's mother phoned her to request some fleece sheets that she makes. She offered to pay for them but my wife said to not worry about it. Since her parents live several hours away from us,we sent the sheets by mail. Three weeks went by and we hadn't received a thank you note or any indication that they had indeed received the parcel. It could have gotten lost in the postal system,as far as we knew. So,my wife phoned to see if they had received the parcel. Her dad answered the phone and affirmed that it did arrive. He did manage to squeeze out a meaningless thanks and that was the end of the conversation! But,on their own, neither my wife's father nor mother, were able to think of giving us a phonecall or thank you note just out of courtesy.
My wife's aunt(not a JW) in Germany(sister to her mother) told my wife recently that the only time her sister ever calls her is when she needs something. Other than that, she never hears from her!
You asked," Is my family the only crazies out there?" I don't think so! Seems to be a common trait of JWs,IMO.
