Was Eve Perfect?

In Watchtowerland Eve needs to be perfect at the outset.

Watchtower-think leads to reverse-engineering in the reasoning process. It is at the root of all JW doctrine.

The way it works is this.

You start at the end result and work backward. Along the way you "adjust" the known facts accordingly. Where there are no facts you insert descriptive words and phrases that nudge the reader or listener to fill in the blanks. It is a magic trick where the magician misleads you into scrutinizing the wrong thing while the sleight-of-hand goes undetected.

Eve needs to be perfect and so does Adam for several reasons.

1.If Adam and Eve are not the workmanship of God in reflecting God's perfection there is a loose end. A perfect craftsman who produces imperfect work is illogical. It would indicate INTENT on the part of the artisan in creating something designed to malfunction. The theologian CALVIN built his doctrine around this. He called it PREDESTINATION. The JW's want no such fatalistic venue. Hence they must avoid the premise that a perfect God deliberately makes malfunctioning people.

2.A perfect human can only demonstrate perfection by behavior which conforms to a perfect ideal. The ideal or standard of behavior in the Garden of Eden is the pronouncement of God. Doing otherwise indicates a different standard for humans. The human standard, if imperfect, would stem from the way the human thinking and reasoning process was made. Thus, once again, acting against their own human interests in displeasing God would indicate a suicidal tendency on the part of humanity. Very suspicious if they are "perfect". A foil is needed.

    3. Here is where the bible gets into trouble and so do JW's. A bad actor is introduced as a means of prodding bad behavior. The serpent. The serpent MISrepresents (according to God) the outcome of disobedience. Eating the fruit is represented as a positive means of attaining knowledge superior to that which humans have at status quo. If either human is misled their behavior is explicable as naivete. Otherwise, the serpent is telling the truth and God is misrepresenting the facts.

4.Death is represented as the outcome. Date certain: ON THE DAY YOU EAT OF IT (the fruit). The serpent says "no". God says "yes". Neither Adam nor Eve die on the day they eat of the fruit. This requires the Watchtower philosophy to switch the meaning of "die" into a semantic misrepresentation. Death is represented as; not DEATH at all, but, a condition of separation from God.

So, the reverse engineering of Watchtowr-think begins with the desired end result and works backwards.

1.Women are inferior to men. Why? Because of Eve.

They conveniently omit the fact that Eve was under the headship of Adam. The guy in charge is always held responsible for what the underlings do.

2.God wants men to dominate women. Why? Well, Jehovah doesn't hold Adam ultimately responsible for failed headship. He rewards the man's bad behavior by putting man permanently over the woman to dominate her. Man now has to labor for food and shelter and woman has pain of childbirth.

The Watchtower books and magazines indicate Adam and Eve knew what Jehovah meant by using the word "death". The Watchtower reasons that Adam and Eve had seen animals die. So, the human pair were fully informed as to the consequenc of their bad actions. This is a HUGE LOGICAL FLAW! The Watchtower is conveniently forgetting they themselves define the "death" Jehovah is speaking about as "spiritual death" and not physical. This invalidates their analogy of seeing animals die!

3.Jehovah's woman (his organization) will produce an offspring to save mankind. PLAN B substitutes the 144,000 for the failure of Eve. A greater Adam (Jesus) and a greater Eve (144,000) are the rescue operation.

The logical flaw in this is that a fallen, sinful and imperfect human is seen to be in a better position to avail themselves of PLAN B than a sinless and perfect human in the Garden of Eden! Belief and behavior are key to Watchtower salvation doctrines. A weak, sinful, tempted human after the fall of man is represented as actually having the ability to achieve salvation even while tainted and burdened with imperfections in a wicked world; whereas, Adam and Eve in the best of all possible worlds (paradise) could not do it! What is the key to this? BELIEF and BEHAVIOR guided by Watchtower wisdom

    Contrast this doctrine with Christendom.

Christendom says it is God and his grace that rescue mankind and man can do nothing at all to earn it! God tosses out a life saver at the end of a rope and all man has to do is cling to the promise of being pulled ashore to escape drowning.

In JW doctrine man goes to the Kingdom Hall and is taught how to swim and must overcome cramps, sharks and undertow for the entire length of his life on Earth prior to Armageddon or he drowns.

EVE and ADAM and the "perfection" of each of them is a stop-gap technique of JW reasoning to make their presuppositions stand and their Salvation Doctrine function.

The JW's invent a motive for Adam to disobey God since he was not "deceived". They invent the phoney explanation that Adam loved his wife more than he loved God. Where does the bible say this? Nowhere! They just make the whole thing up.

Adam is more guilty than Eve. He is the one in charge. Eve, at least, is given wrong information (or was it???) while Adam just went along to get along.

No, the entire scenario does not stand. It is folk mythos which served to explain to less sophisticated primitive people why things are the way they are. It isn't a fool proof and well-thought-out explantion. It is rather sexist and silly. The fact I once belonged to a religious cult that convinced me it is an actual history of what happened early in man's history is a big SHAME ON ME!

Were it not for women the entire society of Jehovah's Witnesses would fall in less than a month. It is the work and effort (thankless) of women which is the glue and mortar of the functioning of this Watchtower Society. They are the "niggers" on the Governing Body's plantation.

    It is disgusting.

Actually I've read about how some scholars consider this originally a work of parody and that the "primitive" people, being more sophisticated than we may give them credit for, would probably find it amusing to see how literally it has been taken.

JWs distort the story to fit their own myths

no where does god promise eternal life for the obediant.... what he promises is a quick death for the one who eats of the tree...

which infact turns out to be false.

secondly, Adam was not made to live forever as JWs claim... the story is quite clear that God did nothing to cause Adam to die

and the eating of the tree did not either... infact Adam lived to be 930 years old and there is no mention of how he died but it seems that old age was the culprit....

what the bible is also clear about is that Adam could only live longer artificially--that is by eating of the magic tree of life.

and even AFTER eating of the tree of knowledge, Adam still was ABLE to do so...but out of fear, it seems, God prevented this.

if you assume God is all knowing... another absurd idea... then Eve was always perfectly what God knew she would be :)

otherwise, what would you compare her to? there is no other human around as a standard :)
