I have known several who stopped going to meetings and it depended on the cong BOE on how they are viewed. For example the home cong shunned a family who fadded away. But the other cong, including the elders, regularly visited the family. Both cong knew the family and had "friends" in each. There was absolutely no logic behind why each cong treated the family totally different.
