Ithinkisee and his wife Freedomlover both did a ton of research on 607. Look back at some of the threads each started and you will find some good info.

Here is one I found that might help you provide a simple answer:

    as jgnat said:

If you want a good laugh, get the book for yourself. According to them, nearly every word of Daniel's prophecy is related somehow to modern-day Jehovah's Witnesses. The restoration of Israel, for instance, is firmly ignored.

You can read just about anything which is either historical or bible literature based on Daniel and see how jgnat is correct. This is a strong proof for a JDub who is asking questions about the organisaion. This may not be what you need right now, but maybe in the future.

Thanks guys, you've been really helpful. So i got this... The 70 years refers to WHEN God spoke to the king not when the exile ended as jw's teach. That correct?

    Sure you can ask

Just a point of note. When we studied it the first time I was a Book Study Conductor and there was one single place where I nearly stumbled over it, even as a devote Elder, spending quite some time convincing myself of the WTS position.

It was in connection with their interpretation of the 1290 days and the 1335 days of Daniel 12.

    KW13,

I thought crazies KISS method (very similar to AlleyMom's) was good, too.

Yeah cool :) Well what did all my questions get me? I got my Stepdad and my Mum to admit that they are witnesses by choice and its not all based on facts...when i repeated what they had both said they looked concerned, like i had tricked them lol.

Here is my normal plug for my site. http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/1914.htm

It is not as in depth as many of the other things referenced, but hopefully a bit easier to understand.

Certainly like already stated, why think that the prophecy even has a second fulfillment, most of the other Daniel prophecies only had one fulfillment.

Sorry for being slightly off track here but talking of Daniel I once read in CoC that John Aquila Brown in the early 1800s published an explantion of the 2,300 days of Daniel showing these ending in 1844. This was then adopted by the Second Adventists and in turn this calculation was used by the Bible Students to get to their 1914. Can anyone here point me to a link about this?

    Cheers
