Nah, I'm not a comic book fan (actually I did like the Hulk)

My name is Richard, and my parents and close friends call me Richie. When I was little, kids always called me RichieRich.

I hated it, now I love it.

I own a comic-book store, so yeah, a bit of a fan. I do read more modern adult(not porn) books though, like Sandman, Preacher, Lone Wolf &Cub and the like.

I suppose my "inner geek" was manifesting at an early age, but I was oddly attracted to sci-fi comics found in used-book stores which were already old when I read them, such as "Magnus-Robot Fighter", and "Mighty Samson" (about a Herculean fellow in an apocalyptic world of the 21st century or so). "Doom Patrol" was a lot like "X-Men", but from DC comics. Also, "The Spectre", "Metal Men", "Metamorpho", "Mystery in Space" and others. Also, some of the "Classics Illustrated" series, "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "Frankenstein", etc. In more recent years, I've enjoyed "Danger Girl", as you just can't have too many stories about strong capable women. Also, the "Bitchy Bitch" stories by Roberta Gregory are very entertaining and perceptive.

I bought comic books when they were 12 cents a piece. I loved Archie, Millie the Model, Casper, Wendy the Good Little Witch, RR, Dot and Little Lotta. I would also read my brothers super heroes comics.

My friend and I would walk to the store. We'd each buy a comic book, a candy bar for a nickel, a coke for 10 cents (in the south, all soft drinks are referred to as coke) and sometimes a bag of chips or cheetos for 10 cents. If we were really lucky, we had 60 or 70 cents for a 45 record, say Dizzy or Build Me Up, Buttercup or some new Motown hit. It was hot has hades in SE Louisiana, so we'd go home, lie on my bed, listen to records, read our comics while we snacked and then we'd switch comic books. Ahhhhh, what fond memories. *Sigh*

Later I loved Mad and Creepy magazines.
