    Transcendental Trickery

from : ICCC (Interfaith Coalition of Concern about Cults)

"As the massacre at Jonestown in 1978 recedes into the distance, as the Unification Church seeks respectability, as the Hare Krishnas dispense with their saffron robes and shaven heads in favor of less conspicuous dress, as the cults in general take on a more assimilative posture, there is an imminent danger that people will forget and overlook the cults' everyday commitment to 'divine deceit,' 'transcendental trickery' and 'heavenly deception.'"

Lying under oath in court is not allowed to JWs under the "theocratic warfare" clause. But they can refuse to answer. In the US that is allowed, not to answer--5th amendment of the Bill of Rights

I believe this is only true in matters where you would be incriminating yourself. If a JW refused to testify, say against a fellow JW, I think he would be held in contempt of court.

Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    fairmind-

true.. it also only applies to matters which may lead to criminal prosecution of YOURSELF.

In other words, it was meant to keep confessions extorted by torture from becoming valid evidence in cases where your life (death penalty) or liberty (jail time) were at issue..
