How many actually watched or owned adult material when they were Witnesses?

Hi Prophector, the way I see it, you did her a favour. She saw that you were a normal person just like everyone else and it probably made her question the witnesses and their doctrine to such an extent that she decided the religion wasn't for her.

I cringe when I think of all the children at school I spoke to about the 'true' biblical position with regards to blood transfusions.

Personally I always thought it was amuzing that Witnesses would not admit to owning porn and yet, I know tons who had soft-core available through things like HBO and others. That they watched, but knew there was no track record of. There is only minor differences, having to do with camera angles. Yet, they did have these channels and you know they knew they were there.

O man, my first real introduction to pron was when my brother and I were at this sister's house for a gathering. Her husband was an unbelieving mate and had playboy on his television. Anyway, we were in the den watching pron and she would come by and give us sandwhiches and and orange. (We'd change the channel when she came by of course). After the third or so time, she was like "You guys arent watching any X-rated material right?". In which we answered "of course not". This was back in like 96/97, lol.

    lets break this down.

    still a jw, ex elder

Richie, I love ya, kid! ROTFLMAO!

Elise, I get what you are saying, but the fact is elders are imperfect human beings just like everybody else. Most of us, even as die-hard JW's, did things we knew were "wrong" according to the extremely strict code of the WTS. I think we hoped that Jehovah would overlook such sins and forgive us, especially if these practices were private and caused no harm to others.

Frankly, if elders were required to be perfect reflections of the ideal JW and to step down whenever they didn't strictly live up to everything published by the Society, there wouldn't be any....oh, except those idiots who are so deluded that they think they are perfect. Hmmmm, in fact, if any Jehovah's Witness was required to turn themselves in or leave the religion for doing something not sanctioned by the Governing Body, you only have a handful of congregations existing in the whole world.

Also, as Merry pointed out, there are many who do not want to be a JW any more but also don't want to lose all contact with family members by bowing out of the religion completely. Usually, these men end up stepping down eventually as the hypocracy is too much for them. Everybody has their own set of circumstances to deal with. Who is to say what the definitive course of action for everyone should be?

    This is a sad thread.

Lets replace the word porn and adult material with stealing or molesting or mutilation of animals or druggery or drunkeness.....all the sins which humans commit everyday.

Can a man of God actually condone any of this?

Arent there men who aspire to rise above the mundane to know the mind of God and be his friend?

    I think there are.

I wish all the men who cannot live up to the scriptural requirements for elders, to please step down.

It is not only better for you, but best for others if you step down and work on your own spirituality before endeavoring to preside over other's lives.

This is a very serious matter of conscience.

Porn, while tantalizing, is demonic. It is part of the dark side.

We all must make our choices daily, hourly, on what side we want to be on, the dark or the light.

Hellrider, it doesn't matter whether a person is raised as a JW or not. To be baptised as an adult is a conscious choice

Umm, how many "raised in" JW's do YOU know that were baptized as adults?

From what I remember, mot of us raised in the JW's were baptized somewhere between eight and 17. If you were raised in it and did'nt get baptized by 18, then it rarely happened at all, you usually left or did the fade.

Geez, you are one HECK of a judgemental midwife. Do you attend births of unwed mothers? Lesbians? Or are you too good for them to?!?

You do realize the Witnesses are not the true religion, right? If so, then expecting people to be "men of god" and know the religion is not god's, is conflicting. Also, I have nothing against porn, but molestation and the other items you mention, I do. However, to put them together and act like they are the same thing, is a personal issue to yourself and I know that others would not follow your thinking.
