"Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison would start out the funeral and when everyone started to get a little choked up then I'd have the music quickly switched over to "We Are The Champions" by Queen and then have a round of drinks served to everyone

VanMorrison's mom was a JW and dragged him to meetings as a little boy. Its one of the reasons he always considered himself to be an outsider and not fit in with the rest of the world .I really connect with his music and Mystic is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Van even wrote a song titled "Kingdom Hall."

    Into the Mystic

We were born before the wind
    Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
    Come on girl...

    We Are The Champions

Words and music by Freddie Mercury
I've paid my dues- time after time
    I've done my sentence
    But committed no crime
And bad mistakes, I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
    But I've come through

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
    We are the champions -
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world

I've taken my bows and my curtain calls
You've bought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it - I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses no pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
    And I ain't gonna lose

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
    We are the champions -
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world

And while they're shoveling the dirt in my face smile and sing along to:We Are Monkeys-Travis

People think they're funny when they haven't the wit
Others think they're gorgeous but inside they feel shit
Many think they're brainy but they haven't a clue
And I think I'm clever cos I'm singing this to you

We are wrong, we are wrong
We are all so, so wrong
    We are monkeys
We are false, we run true
We should be in the zoo with our uncles
    And if you don't believe
Go and climb up a tree and you'll love it
You're a fool to believe anymore
    So believe you're a monkey

All the clever monkeys telling us what to do
Telling us to stay in line and join the monkey queue
Thinking that they're special cos they went to private zoo
One day soon they're gonna end up in a monkey stew

They are wrong, they are wrong
They are all so, so wrong
    They are monkeys
They are false, They run true
They should be in the zoo with their uncles
    And if you don't believe
Go and climb up a tree and you'll love it
You're a fool to believe anymore
    So believe you're a monkey

Well, when I like a song, I usually like to be around when it is played, so it is tempting to reply "who cares?"

Funeral rites are for the living, and the music should perhaps be about healing for those left behind. Hopefully, they will mourn, and not celebrate (A scene from a television version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carrol comes to mind!)

Yet, let offer what I think is a good suggestion.

    Who Wants To Live Forever

    by Queen

    There's no time for us,
    There's no place for us,
What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away from us.

    Who wants to live forever,
    Who wants to live forever.....?
    There's no chance for us,
    It's all decided for us,
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us.

    Who wants to live forever,
    Who dares to love forever,
    When love must die.

But touch my tears with your lips,
Touch my world with your fingertips,
    And we can have forever,
    And we can love forever,
    Forever is our today,
    Who wants to live forever,
    Who wants to live forever,
    Forever is our today,
    Who waits forever anyway?

I'm been thinking about Mozart's Requiem Mass. To me, it's the greatest celebration of life I have ever heard. Not sad as much as it is reverent. Parts of it sound like, "Gee, I'm glad it's not ME in that box. I think I'll go out after this deal and enjoy something fun."

I know it's sappy and religious, but I still love it. I won't hear it, of course, but maybe if anyone bothers to attend my wake, they could learn to appreciate Mozart.
