I was thinking along those lines too, Blondie. Imagine how different that story might have turned out had the JW father decided against Informal Witnessing™ to a group of half a dozen Goth teens. So much for Angelic Protection™ when JWs are Preaching™ to complete strangers.

For anyone who's interested, the show was indeed a repeat. I didn't catch what year the murders happened, but clearly it was several yrs ago so it's probably old news.
According to the show....the family was traveling home from a JW convention. They were from Knoxville, TN. They stopped at a rest stop and saw a carful of teens dressed as Goths get out of the car. Other people at the rest stop saw the JW father approach them and start a conversation, then later follow them in their car down the road. Then gunshots were reported in a somewhat isolated stretch of road and police found the parents dead and the kids almost dead. I believe the kids later died. A number of "Satanic" symbols were found at the scene, including bullet wounds in the shape of a pentagram.
The show was very sympathetic to the JWs, repeatedly making them out to be upstanding moral people who just wanted to help others (not that they weren't). It was also VERY much into saying the demons were involved. It showed the prosecutor repeatedly making claims about demons. Apparently the perps were threatened in prison because of it. There were volatile pickets outside the courtroom too.
The theory presented was that the JW dad approached the teens to witness to them, and the ringleader thought this was the perfect victim. The other teens all blamed the ringleader, but all the teens got the same sentence--life in prison w/o parole.
