Ok if I do have to have a JC this is the letter that I've sortof drawn up (this is a rough draft) what do you guys think?

Gentlemen- Before we begin tonight we must first establish some ground rules and decide under whose authority you have convened this tribunal.

1st This conversation is of a personal and confidential nature. Any attempt by you to communicate the contents of this meeting to any person, persons, businesses or corporations including the WBTS of New York will be considered a breach of confidentiality and will result in lawsuits against you gentlemen as individuals, and as a body. Lawsuits will also be filed against any person, persons, businesses or corporations that use or attempt to use the information that you provide to them in any way. Before we leave tonight I will give you a letter which better outlines my position on this matter.

2nd As an Agnostic/Atheist I do not recognize that any man or group of men has the right to judge another or to usurp gods place as judge if he does exist. As such any action that you take or any statements you make against me outside of this room will be considered libel and I will take legal action of a personal nature against who ever says such statements or does take such action.

As I am no longer a Jehovah?s Witness and have not claimed to be a member of your religion or participated in any of your religious rites in several years your bylaws do not apply to me and you therefore have no legal or civil rights against me as an ex-member. Therefore having no civil authority to censor, judge, malign, or affect me in ANY way you must feel that you have a religious authority. Yes or no?-

If no- Why are we here then?

If yes- Current JW dogma states that the rights of the elders in the congregation flow down from Jehovah to Jesus to the GB to the individual congregations to the elders as a body. Yes or no?-

If no- Where does this power come from?

If yes- This policy is based on the belief that Jesus attained to heavenly power in 1914. (This date was reached after studies of bible prophesy came to the conclusion that Israel would be in bondage for 70 years after the destruction of their temple in 607 BCE. Counting forward from 607 a year for a day comes out to 1914) Finally Jesus threw Satan out of heaven after a war of 4 years. When Jesus finally reached his heavenly throne in 1918/1919 he commissioned the ?faithful and discreet slave? or the ?Governing body? to rule here in his name. They have continued in this capacity down to the present day.

Is this where this tribunal claims to draw its power? Yes or no?!

If no- You have no civil rights and you have no religious rights? goodnight!

If yes- History clearly shows that Jerusalem was destroyed in 586/587 BCE not 607. Even the WBTS?s own research supports that date, not 607. Counting forward from THAT date gives us 1935, not 1914 clearly there was no divine mandate given in 1935 nor four years later at 1939/1940 therefore you have no legal OR divine rights? goodnight!

If they argue that 607 WAS the year that temple was destroyed?

Even if 607 was correct 2 Chronicles 36: 20 and Jeremiah 25:11, 12 clearly pinpoint the END of the 70 years as when Babylon is overthrown by the Persians. This occurred in 539 BC when the Persian army entered Babylon without a battle. This would give 609 as the start of the 70 years? which would carry forward into Jesus attempting to gain his heavenly throne in 1912? either way your wrong and you therefore have no religious authority either? goodnight!

    opinions and comments wanted!!!!!!!

I can't say what's right and wrong for you. I just know for me that arguing with those people over docturnal issues, you will never win. They are so blind and uncaring they will not hear you. You will be just one more 'apostate' who left 'the truth' (tm).

I've been wrong in the past.

OK, one major thing that most of us (but not you!) tend to forget is this: The elders hold no earthly or heavenly authority over you- as you so eloquently stated in your letter. Legally, they can't force you to attend their pathetic little kangaroo court if you don't feel like going. So, you're the one with the power in this situation, not them.

Having said that, I must say that I admire your clear and organized approach to the situation. If you do decide to speak with the elders, give 'em hell, and then please let us all know how it went.

Best of luck, like insomniac said - give 'em hell - and let us know how things go. I think I'm going to print out your post (if it's okay with you) and save it for my potential day to come.

    mkr32208,

    You said:

As I am no longer a Jehovah’s Witness

If you HONESTLY believe that, why on earth are you bothered about a JC? Let them play their petty little games. STAY AWAY from any JC, don't even waste your time writing, don't do anything that has any connection to JWs, DON'T EVER MEET WITH ELDERS!!!

Just get on with your life and enjoy your newfound freedom. You seem in fear of the JWs. Why?

You will NEVER be completely free unless you just ignore them. That's the TRUTH!

    Best wishes,

    Ian

Ian, that's the pin on the head (or reversed).

    Since you, mkr32208 stated

As I am no longer a Jehovah?s Witness and have not claimed to be a member of your religion or participated in any of your religious rites in several years your bylaws do not apply to me and you therefore have no legal or civil rights against me as an ex-member.

I wonder who did asked for this Judiceal Dealy - since it has been several years that you participated and now - out of a sudden - this meating ? Or do you WANT this ? Just having a opportunity to be able to tell them they are wrong ?

If not, why talk to them at all ? leave them. They are'nt worth spending time with (on this peticular object that is)

I considered going to their religious courtmarshal tantamount to bringing the rope to my own hanging.

I skipped the entire sordid affair, and years later I have no regrets for doing so. Don't let them waste your time. Every day of life is too precious. They won't listen, spend the time instead doing something that brings you joy. They are soul-less automatons and cannot respond logically to the facts, at least until they are ready to leave themselves.

Big hugs and best of luck, whatever you decide.
