Repressed, Triggered and Recovered Memories

I am fascinated that so many of you have repressed memories. Actually I don't find it surprising though considering the incerdible difference in how a person must live as a JW in the outside world and live a nightmare at home. The chasm is too deep to bridge the two sides so dissociation and repression would have to be utilized to survive mentally.

Big Tex has suggested I post this essay on Memory that I wrote a while ago. Some of you may have read it already but others might find it helpful

Yes it is Rayzor. No child deserves that. Sometimes I watch my children when they're asleep, and I see how peaceful and how innocent they are. They will never know what I know.

I wish I could say that for your friend. If I could, I would change the past for her.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I just wanted to point out that there is danger in accepting all accounts of repressed memories. There are many cases of injustice against innocent people who were falsely accused of abusing their children and others because of over-confidence in repressed memories. There were several Satanic Ritual Abuses reported in the 80's, yet no evidence of such activity was ever found. The only reason these accusations were brought up is because some unscrupulous psychologists created false memories in their patients.

rem yes it happens but most people get their repressed memories back all on their own without the help of therapists - unscrupulous or not. Mine came back on a warm summer night talking to a friend about something totally unrelated to abuse.

Yes we need caution but not all repressed memories are false
