Is harry potter promoting occultism, in your opinion? I haven't read any of the books, but i saw the first movie. I do some stuff that would be laballed occult by the wt, yet i didn't see any of that there. Incantations are useless, as far as i can see. What about it, is there other stuff in there that is really teaches kids occultism?

    Hi SaintSatan

Personally, I LOVE HARRY POTTER !!!

My understanding of the word ''occult'' means ''hidden''

So yes, HP books have elements of the occult.

However, JW's have alot of explaining to do their damn selves don't they? Tee Hee Hee.

They are masters at hiding their past, and ''old light''.

They believe in evil spirit beings that can be warded off with the ''incantation'' JEHOVAH, JEHOVAH, JEHOVAH !

So who are they to call the kettle black?

If Harry Potter promotes occultism, I'm the Virgin Mary.

I have just finished the book. Absolutely loved it! The Harry Potter books are fiction and should be read as such. Anyone who thinks that Rowling is promoting the occult in her stories, has never read them. Pure entertainment, nothing more.

I can't wait for the next book, I hope that she doesn't wait as long to write the next one as she did for the fifth.

No, but I will tell you what it does promote, it promotes children's love of reading, imagination and curiosity. I saw small children EAGER to receive an 800 page book. Reading ficiton is not a bad thing and I think it''s a damn shame that people don't read them and see the the delight in the eyes of children. I watched Bewitched and didn't go into witchcraft (couldn't wiggle my nose) LOL

Well cheeses (sorry cheeses), i figured that at the least the format in the first movie suggested the learning of magic. Granted that what hogwarts teaches is worthless, still, kids w psychic abilities go away to a sort of hidden school to learn how to develop their abilities has the general form of occultic training. Hellena blavatski (theosophy) was sent to a persian sufi school where she supposedly learned the practice of psychic stuff. Won't this story line set up in kids' minds the template in which they will later want to check their psychic potentials, learning to have faith in their own abilities, rather than god?

And doesn't that say volumes about the books parents wish their children wanted to read and yet kids pass them over? Why don't they appeal? I think if I wrote children's books that didn't do as well as J. K. Rowling's, I'd read hers with the attitude, "What is she doing that's so good?"

    kingpawn:

I know in the case of my daughter, Harry Potter is seen as a hero, someone who has conquered evil under the most extreme conditions. Kids need books like these to lift them up and realize that all is not lost even when you are tested to your limits. Sure, there are other books out there that do this same thing, but Rowling is at the top of her game now and the marketing by Scholastic has put the books in the hands of more people than otherwise would not have read them in the first place. I hear that she has written a book (not Harry Potter) between the fourth and fifth editions of Harry Potter. It has not been published yet, but I am looking forward to reading something other than Potter to see what she can do in the adult arena.

KIngpawn: That IS the problem parents shouldn't WISH their children read "certain" books. If parents had BRAINS they would realize you instill a LOVE FOR READING by letting them read what they like. For me I loved the Little House Books oh hell I read anything I could get my hands on. If you INSTILL the love of reading then the classics will come. Also, by letting them read books the like they learned to read at a good pace and they learn to remember what they read.

My son struggled with reading but now he has read and re-read all of Tolkiens books including the Simarillion. Even though he had a reading problem his Father and I instilled a LOVE for reading.

SainS: SIGH HEAVY SIGH Funny my son has a deep LOVE OF GOD and read Tolkien GASP. Do you really think children are so one dimensional? Do you have children? I can't imagine being around a child and seeing them as so limited. What children get out of Harry Potter is many thing the magic is one of the least important things. They learn friendship, they learn that although they may not have a "typical" family that other adults will love them, they learn that being different is not such a bad thing. They learn that although you may be rich you can be a rude snot and although you may be poor you can still be happy. There are lesson upon lesson here. They learn about good things and bad things that are a part of life.
