I was reading something bout bashing the org unfairly...I disagree with doing it to a degree but did you get an unfair bashing by JWs after you left?

I was accused of marrying a sister (who I helped to leave at the same time as me), she was twice my senoir and had sons the same age as me...pure lies and gossip.

And I was accused of smoking some drug, and thats why I disassed. More gossip and lies.

Dont know what else they dreamed up, nothing of their lies surprises me these days.

    So did they slander you?

Edited to add: I disassociated because I uncovered their history and lies, never did drugs or anything the WT deemed immoral. But naturally that never seemed to be noted.

I really don't know (or care) what was said about me after my DF'ing. I lost contact with any local insiders, so they could have and may have carried on any lies about me that they wanted to.

That's a major problem with DF'ing -- the remaining members will never hear the other side of the story. All they know is that they are TOLD that someone is unworthy of their fellowship, love, whatever. However that is just the opinion of the men on the committee. (Holy spirit and truth have little to do with the outcome of a judicial hearing.)

I do know however that when certain ones were DF'd or DA'd, that people often start in with their guessing games in short order. I guess it's okay for "Christians" to kick someone when they're down (after they've left) and they're not present to verbally defend themselves.

But again, I consider those who choose to gossip and slander former members as die-hard fanatics. And who cares what a few die-hard fanatics have to say? Life goes on without them.

I agree totally Gopher, just wondered if it was the norm, and how many had been affected by the lying or slander from Gods only truth speaking org.

But then again its not always a case of simply being able to ignore whats said after one leaves, for instance, if they accused me of having an affair with this woman and yet she had hoped to get back with her "Unbelieving husband" the consequnces of their slander are further reaching. She would have told him all the years she was a JW how honest and truthful JWs were, then they come out with this slander and he hears it and now he is to believe they are telling lies?

See I couldnt give a stuff what they say about me, though it is lies, albeit for the lies drawing a greater wedge between me ever reaching my JW family and telling them the true reasons I left. They think it perferctly justified to shun me simply because they are led to believe I left for bad reasons.

It was weird. I found out in a long and round about way, what was 'said' about me, after I left.

The unbaptized sister, who left the WTBTS anyways...well, we ended up tracking each other down around 1988. We got talking and corresponding. Eventually she confronted me about 'what she heard'.

From what I remember, I didn't recall that the offense etc., was made public knowledge by the elders or even the brothers and sisters. But.....how wrong I was.

She repeated what she heard, and I confirmed her suspicions, and she did tell me where she heard it. Other brothers/sisters. I was in Toronto, Canada, she was in southern Maine, USA. Go figure?! But I knew who spilled the beans, thing was, the person who would have known, was dealing with the same thing I was. Easier to take the heat of himself, I suppose. But....whatever!

I'm sure the rumours have settled down; it has been almost 20 years. But it doesn't matter anymore. Interesting how things are found out, even almost 1000 kms. away.

I have heard many funny stories because I have not been regular at meetings for months and haven't been to any meetings for weeks. Apparently, I have left my husband, started my own sect, slandered one of the elders, had a nervous breakdown, lost my job, and moved away. All these things are lies - my husband and I are very much together, I wouldn't start a sect if my life depended on it, I have ALWAYS slandered the elders (ha ha!), I am mentally sound (at least for the moment), I am still working and I am STILL HERE! I haven't moved anywhere. It is amazing how the gossips have a field day about such things.

PS - They can say what they like, when they like. My true friends will stick with me. Those that don't were never friends to begin with.
