Back in November the wife of someone who I had been engage to, many years ago, died. I sent a card of condolence to him. He googled my name, found my email addy and responded. I was surprised somewhat and we've been talking ever since, first by email now mostly by text and messenger. He's a very active jw and I've made it quite clear that I am a baptised Christian with no plans of ever going back to the bOrg, he tells me that I am what I am and he has no plans of trying to change me, it doesn't matter to him and he wants to be my friend. I can't help thinking that he has divided himself and that he knows he really shouldn't be talking to me. So I talk to him, all the while knowing that one day that wall might come up.

Perhaps...maybe because he's talking to me he's showing a little bit of rebellion

He sounds like someone who enjoyed having a wife (or a woman in his life) and now he doesn't.
He knew you and hopes you can fill a void in his life.

Just be careful as he is a JW. He will put you through turmoil with his back-and-forth swings of
    loyalty.

We've negotiated what our relationship will be, just friends. I've told him that I'm not willing to deal with any flip-flopping, if he feels that he can't be friends because of our conflicting religious views I should know now and we can let this go. I even told him to go away because I thought he was doing this.

I know he has unresolved feelings for me related to the way we broke up. But it's nice that we're talking again after all these years and are trying to be friends.

Just friends. Sure, men want women to be their friends. HA!

He might even mean it, but men looking for friends are looking for other men.
Men looking for comfort might seek out a woman. Comfort leads to feelings.

Still, keep your guard up. There's nothing wrong with that.
