Who are the 24 Elders?

Revelation 4, 5, 11 & 19 talk of twenty four Elders, before the throne of God.

The WTS interpretation has them as the anointed in heaven, but that just doesn't wash, as they are seen to be observers of events that apparently involve folks still on earth. By their account they have 23.5 Elders in heaven and half a body on the ground, so to speak.

    Any ideas who these are?

(I have an speculation, which I'll mention later)

The 24 elders are an actual, literal number. They are the 24 posters on JWD that were formerly JW elders.

I somehow suspect that we're not of that number (the 24), Minimus

I was supposed to be one, but it interferred with my bowling night, so I blew it off.

LT, I really don't know who they are. For me the book of Revelation is so symbolic, that I have neither the time nor the interest to give a hoot. I don't care who those are that "buy gold refined by fire". I don't give a hoot about "the song of Moses and of the Lamb". I am not interested in who the "angels with the bowls" are either.......I still think that we COULD be the 24 elders, though.

I give in - Just who are those 24 elders that I am constantly wondering about?

cheeses - the suspense is almost too much to handle.

Thanks for the fun remarks, keep 'em coming

I don't know what the answer is, I can only speculate. I am interested in peoples viewpoints, though (hence why I popped this thread into "Bible Research").

I read a book last year, that gave them an astrological significance. In fact much of Revelation had astrological interpretations.

    Hey LittleToe....(and no...you didn't alienate me)

I have a comment, but not about who the 24 elders are.

My comment is as to why you or anybody else doesn't know who they are ....and what the benifit is for having it recorded in the bible if we are not told who they are.

Revelation was "chucked out" of the bible canon more than once and it wasn't untill the 4th century, if I remember right that it was decided by the church to include it as part of the accepted canon.

You might wanna ask my girlfriend Shelby and see what she has to say as she can ask the lord directly........if he will answer her on that one. ( funnin with ya Shelby)
