Do Elders give ''goodbye'' talks when leaving their congregations?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini've had the same elders in my congregation for the last 25 years.
they've added two new elders in the last five years.
none of them have ever moved to another congregation.. i would like to know: if an elder decides to move to another congregation, will they let him give a little ''goodbye'' talk at the service meeting to thank everyone?

If the WT dumped 1914 tommorow ...?
by faithfulslavedriver inthis is my first post here.
i've been a lurker for awhile but had no particular desire to join until the other day.. anyways, do you think that if wt decided to face the fact that 607-1914 is an indefensible pile of crap that has been artificially kept steaming for way too long, would it really kick off a mass exodus or anything?
in the short term the fds/gb might lose some authority, but they are hemorrhaging people anyways keeping it around (607 started me on the road to this place).. if wt stopped talking about 1914 for awhile then later killed it, blaming it on "further research" or something, and acknowledged some uncertainty in 607/587, i really doubt that very many of the r&f would think much about it.

In the late 70s, one Watchtower Jesus was the mediator for all, the next Watchtower He was the mediator for only the 144K. There was a great purge, but many stuck around. 1975 came and went, and many shrugged their shoulders and stuck around. I think if 1914 were dropped, many would stay. Sad to say many are completely brainwashed, some just don't care, and some know they are false, but too afraid to leave. The WT would bleed, but probably not hemorrage to death, unfortunately.

Thinking about going to the memorial and...
by popcorn_eater inpartaking.. background: i have never been a jw.
i have been brought into their world (and the way better ex-jw world) through having a jw stepdaughter and extended family.
i have really come to love my stepdaughter and frankly all this jw stuff pisses me off to no end, as you all might imagine.

Going and partaking has been on my mind a lot as well. I would love to, now that I know the reality of it all, but at the same time, I feel what is the point. I think about it a lot tho.

Has Anyone Been Present When a Dissident Spoke in KH?
by Band on the Run ini know some dissatisified members have planned to "throw caution to the wind" when they exit and break the news as a stunning revelation of lies.
some of my funniest memories were of teachers and others terminated but since they had to finish their contract, they decided to share their insights and horrors.
in normal life, there is a certain allowance made under the circumstances.

I was old enough to know something was happening, but young enough not to catch what exactly was going on. A brother in our congregation, fairly young, early 40s maybe, and his wife, partook at the memorial. You can imagine the stir that caused. There was a lot of whispers that went on over the next few weeks/months, and then he was announced as DF'd from the stage. I remember the whole thing being quite the scandal.
Looking back, knowing what I know now, I think he and his wife were one of those who woke up in the great purge of the '80s. Can't be sure, but it makes the most sense to me now.

i don't want to spend time checking this claim from a jw, and whether it is true or not is, i think, of no significance to their claim of being the 'one true religion'.

Once you really examine this organization, the way this organization recommends others to examine their "false" religions, it falls apart. There is NO way this is God's organization. There is NO way, they aren't even close. Mind control does not make it truth, it just makes it good programming.
I am a big fan of research this organization, the more you do, the faster the chains let go. I personally have zero doubts, they are nothing but mind control false prophets responsible for the descruction and loss of many lives. I see it as one of the most blood guilty cults around. It makes me sick to think I ever believed, and oh so grateful to be free of it.

Watchtower Library 2011
by goddidit ini'm not religious but i am a theology student.. why does this cd instruct me to close my antivirus program before running the executable?.
innocent mistake?
i can't remember ever seeing this instruction on a legitimate executable, and i've been using computers for a long, long time..

There is a lot of discussion re: downloading from the "official" watchtower site, and computer viruses. I haven't heard anything concrete, haven't asked hubby (computer guru) to check into it yet, but I wouldn't put it past them. I could totally see them putting some kind of activity tracker in their stuff, however, at this time it is just coincidence and speculation.

12 WORST MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY DANGERS - DID BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS MAKE THE LIST?
by steve2 inthe latest medscape week in review (march 7th 20120 publishes up to date research on the most dangerous medical technology dangers.
these range from ct scans (increased risk of radiation over-exposure) to wrongful insertion of feeding tubes to "alarm fatigue" (i.e., nursing staff becoming "immune" to activated alarms that patients are in medical distress and needing immediate intervention).
"sadly", blood transfusion technologies did not make the list at all.

Good to know, I always love their argument...."transfusion lead to slower healing times"....so death is better.

Kingdom Hall Dreaming
by Darth plaugeis inhow many of you have had these dreams, where you find yourself at the hall or assembly?.
i have found myself in both scenarios, almost 10 years since i set foot in either, but when i do have these dreams (not often) i do laugh out loud in my dream saying "what the hell am i doing here" and the freinds..... oh how are you, it's so good to see you back.
and the venue is always dark.

I can only recall one dream, this was after my wake up and after some heavy discussions about going to the memorial and partaking. I was a small child and partook, after my parents and the elders informed me that it was not for eating, I replied, who are you to tell me I am not of the annointed class, or something like that. It's a vague memory of the dream, but that was the subject matter. No one said there was an age limit haha.

Jesus and His Disciples...were Apostates! LOL
by RagingBull inthis is just my thought after reading over the "book study" for this week.. the apostles chose to follow christ, all of them were jewish christians.
no matter where paul and silas went, the pharisees stayed harrassing them and would not leave them alone.
spreading vicious rumors and trying to have them stopped.. jws compare themselves to the apostles who were being persecuted for going to the synagogues and drawing away other jews and proselytes.

"Here's where my ignorance shows. Just what exactly do they do, and what indeed CAN they do to their former members?"
Haha, nothing but resort to school yard bully tactics like name calling.
