Repressed memories are a fact , at least in my case . When the mother decided to move near her daughters the memories started to flow back from my childhood and as the nightmares started i asked my older sister if these things i was remembering were real . We sat for hours and i would tell her what i was remembering and she confirmed all that i had remembered. As child i would close my eyes and pretend i was not there ,i knew what was going on but my mind saved me by blocking most of it out but when she decided to move near us it triggered something that opened up my memories and it all came back. So yes , no one can tell me they are made up or that i am lying ,they are as deep and as real as a scare can be. When these kid's are raped ,the assault is so painful they close their eyes and pretend it isn't happening and their mind hides it till it all can be revealed
The jws using this Repressed Memory theory is just a smoke screen for them to hide the truth and since when do JWS use science since they do not believe in it. Since it suits their purpose. -

Chris gave you a good click - there's many threads on this forum about memory, repressed, validity, etc. Lady Lee's website has good information too.
Just so that others realize too.......as of Psych Class 101 one year ago.........the book is HIGHLY influenced to the teaching that False Memory Syndrome is valid......much more valid than "repressed memories." And that memory can easily be influenced/changed.
I believe one of the False Memory Syndrome's most *decorated* psych. is now head of the national group of psych. (whatever that's called). I've read one of her books before - pretty good......but wasn't that hard to see some real flaws. And, being a dummy 101 student....I argued those points with my prof - who actually agreed with me......but wasn't happy with it.
There's many problems with the study of memory. One being.....how does one study it? It's unethical to traumatize a person to a pain point just to see if he'll remember it. Nazis did such things with rifle butts to the heads of children. So it'll probably be argued for generations.
And yes, the CO went over that very article with me.....as my daughter was abused and another woman had given a written account of the same man raping her. However, it was TWO witnesses to two DIFFERENT assaults. Tough break for the victims, eh? "Ah, sister, but wait on Jehovah. He'll make sure all things are put right. Trust in Jehovah."
I took a lot of Prozac instead - and therapy (so did my daughter). It actually worked better. And no, the elders never suggested not seeing a therapist. They said it was a "private decision."

Yeah, the WTS uses whatever it needs to survive.......rather like vampires. I'm so sorry for your horrible childhood. Congratulations on being able to write about it. It does help, at least it helped me.

There are some people who say that ALL memories not currently remembered are false memories. But then there's the other groups which say some are repressed, some just not remembered (who remembers everything?).........and others who strongly believe in the validity.
I read a good quote one time from some psych - speaking about people with mpd/did (if one believes they exist) "Most of these people live normal lives, just living them uncomfortably." I think that's a great thought because "normal" doesn't mean great in the first place. It's just a much more uncomfortable fit for many people, whatever their problem.
Ah parents. May some of them burn in hell. lol - and I don't even believe in hell.

The WT$'s policy's are 100% swayed by parameters of incoming lawsuits.Right around 1990 they stopped obstructing members from seeking professional help.Cover their liability a$$es.
So off i went,i always got wrongfully misdiag. with everything ,because i was inhibited( bring reproach on the 'troof') from telling the MD's what was really going on with me.....
... I was being 'cocooned' by a high demand destructive abusive psychopathic demented false cult..
I have had a LOT of exposure to the mental health profession.I have no experience with repressed memories(as far as I know).I do however have SUPPRESSED memories.
In my case and I bet ya,in many other cult survivors the true diag. is PTSD.That's what i got.

The inerrancy of Harvard's Mental health manual the DSM # 4 I spent 5 years under the care of Harvard's best and brightest in Boston Mass. right in the shadow of their campus. They misdiagnosed me BIG time.Simply put;destructive cult mind control and brainwashing (as yet) are not components of their sacred mental health 'Bible' the DSM #4. Somebody needs to fix the DSM. Go ahead,I dare you to tell a psychiatrist,"I have have been brainwashed and subjected to cult mind control". They will diagnosis you as DELUSIONAL just for saying such a thing...... Might as well,just go ahead and tell em,'you have been abducted by space aliens'. This is the kicker;the courts,military,journalist,general population,the jury pool, yes,even the good doctors grandma knows what 'brainwashing' is. The intellectual idiots at Harvard can't grasp the concept,because they are intellectual idiots. The most likely diagnosis of destructive cult victims may be:A-typical P.T.S.D. ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) in plain language 'shell shock". Lets sue Harvard and the Watchtower everyone. "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,but not their own facts".D.M.
