It would seem to me the fact that the FBI is wasting any time at all prosecuting strip club owners is good news for terrorists," said George Getz, national spokesman for the Libertarian Party which is calling for the repeal of the Patriot Act, passed shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Well I am a right-wing conservative --but I agree this is wrong -- too much time is wasted by police on stopping people for traffic violations and other minor infringements - - the Patriot Act should be used only for dealing with national security and terrorism issues -- stuff like gambling, women, liquor, etc are what people want and all Law Enforcement agencies should concentrate on real issues

Note to d8ta -see although a right wing conservative I can give and support libertarian issues when necessary - I just hate Bush bashing and especailly Reagan bashing.

Does the fbi consider strippers terrorists, or the customers, or maybe the club owners? J edgar must have had an early resurrection.

D8TA, yes, I heard that either last week or the week before. It's only a steppingstone of what's to come.

The question is, can they put the genii back in the bottle?

Once the genie is out of the bottle it is usually difficult to put back in

explain to me again why this is so bad....seems to me that yes...they were able to go around a grand jury...but still had to have the permission of a judge.

ONe "Wrong act" doesn't make the law bad.

How many cops have stopped women on the road just to get their phone numbers...an abuse...but no one talks about taking that power away from them.

I'm really having a hard time getting upset about this.

The police in the UK have (mis)used the anti-terrorist legislation over here to stop demonstrators / protestors because the law mean they don't have to justify their actions and is very 'convenient'. All laws like this end up being misused.

All laws like this end up being misused.

This would read more true this way

"All laws end up being misused."

So we build in the protections...like the FBI being required to report the use of the Patriot Act every six months, etc.

Being misused doesn't make this a bad law...if it's misused it's bad cops. Show me a law that hasn't been misused in some way shape or form.
