    Imbolc starts today!

February eve, Norns, disir and valkyries

Today is the beginning of the festival of Imbolc, or Brigantia. This day is sacred to the Valkyries and the Norns Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, who sit by the Well of Urd under the tree Yggdrasil and determine the fates of men and gods.

This link might help. The explanation I have is a combination of Celtic and Norse religion.

Oh, wow, Gsx1138, I just clicked on that link you gave me. I didn't realise that Imbolc was Candlemas!

I leave my Christmas tree/decorations up until Candlemas.

I also light candles all over on this day. This year I plan to let my babies choose their own special candles that we will light together (they get to stay up until the candles burn out).

    Very interesting reading, Gsx.

Rayvn, I really liked that runes site too! This is the one I got (i let the site choose which type of rune and which spread):

A Single rune is used to gain a quick insight into what drives the situation, or to reduce it to the most concise summary possible. Ice Runes are most commonly used for questions about struggle, conflict, and achievement.
The rune represents the critical factor in the issue at hand. Inguz is the rune of completion and fertility. The presence of this rune suggests that tasks which have been initiated will come to fruition. This rune is associated with Ing and Frey, it is this connection that explains its connotations of both fertility and sexuality. The variant of this rune shown here is reminiscent of the twin strands of life, and of the challenge and rewards of bringing together things complimentary.

Have a blessed Imbolc. Tomorrow is also the feast day of my patron saint, St. Brigid.

    The Heavenly Banquet
Attributed to Saint Brigid of Ireland

I would like to have the men of Heaven
    in my own house;
    with vats of good cheer
    laid out for them.

I would like to have the three Marys,
    their fame is so great.
    I would like people
    from every corner of Heaven.

I would like them to be cheerful
    in their drinking.
I would like to have Jesus, too,
    here amongst them.

I would like a great lake of beer
    for the King of Kings.
I would like to be watching Heaven's family
    drinking it through all eternity.

    Translated by Sean O'Faolain

Jo, of course there will be wine and cheese.

    Let the feasting begin!

    Love,

    Robyn

Ps.s. gsx I thought you worshiped no god other then thine self.

I'll make very clear some things regarding religion and spirituality. I think spirituality can be very good for our psyche. I think religion is a plauge on humankind. You can develope your spirituality from religion so long as you leave it as soon as you learn what you need to satisfactorilly start your spiritual path. On the other hand, I don't think you need to worship or believe anything. It is just a choice not a requirement. I'm very close to being a secular Pagan. By that, I'm almost atheist but I still enjoy the ritual and spirituality of the Sabbats.
