It's hard to know if this is just a case of the developer asking for too many rights, even if he isn't using them, or whether the app's feature set has some connection to web browsing, or what. I would be very surprised if the Society started spying on and outing people for visiting apostate sites.

We should all download the app and log in daily after visiting jehovahs-witness.net.

I had the same idea as Greenhorn. I haven't been in a Kingdom Hall since 1988. I should download the app and check JWN frequently, maybe look at some porn. I could give them a real run trying to find me. If they did, I'd tell them I'm not a JW and what I look at on my phone is my business.

I just think the idea of the Society trying to discipline JWs based on their web history is laughable. Besides that, there shouldn't even be any identifying information on you for them to work with.

They will use the info for District convention talks not to track you down. Is IP address info passed on to them?

I agree with paradisebeauty. If used in a small audience, such as a KH, someone might figure it out by sheer deduction. However, there's no way to know what IP address is matched up with what device. The only way that could happen is if they had some sort of Login protocol after IP assignment that logs your device name. And there would be no way for you to know that's happening. If, after you connect to a network, you get one of those Login pages that asks you to click Login to agree to the terms of use, then it's possible that your device name could be passed along. And you can bet that if they have a Login protocol, everything is logged at some level. But, if you just connect and have nothing further to do, then there's much less of a risk.
