He sure KNOWS an awful lot about sects and cults. Seems his 'studies' will grow null if THIS particular 'sect'(cult) melts down to it's foundation.

Although it is quite lengthy, I think it is useful to read one of the links posted here where Dr. Stark gives court testimony. It will give you a good idea regarding sociological research and Stark's views on religious groups. I think it is important to have this knowledge before you email him. Otherwise, he will view your email as the raving of a crackpot. I think the only thing that would influence him is a very well docuemented, factual piece of work, something like Amazing's elder series, or the docuementation of Witness policy in very specific terms. A testimonial for you about a bad experience you had won't cut it with him. Now, if you gathered statistics on a large number of cases that all fit the same pattern, then he might take a look. Also, writing his collegues will have no effect either and will only hurt your cause.

I sent a rather lenghty email to Dr. Stark. My major question was, what he had written about the Jehovah's Witnesses. He replied that he had written one artice in the Journal of Contemporary Religion, 1997, Vol. 12, pp. 123-157. Tommorow, I will see if I can find it, and see what it is about.
This shoot-first,-look-sheepish-later mentality is depressing. I continue to hope for displays of common sense among this crowd.
