  Up until now, everlasting life was dependent on "taking in knowledge". It was a perfect fit for a publishing house to interpret that scripture that way. If we didn't keep up with the endless stream of publications from the Watchtower our salvation would be in jeopardy. Now that they've changed the translation closer to most other bibles it reveals that salvation comes by knowing God and having a relationship with him not how good our study habits are.

The "Old" New World Translation reads: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."

  Freddy Franz did whatever he could to make the JW's peculiar and different from everyone else. GB 2.0 seems to be trying to bring the religion more mainstream with Mormon type PR and softened approaches in public edition magazines ... and now a Bible that in some ways is more in line with other translations. Did they change John 1:1 to Jesus being "divine" instead of "a god"?

  but I suspect that the reasoning will just change to "the only way of coming to know God is by taking in accurate knowledge from the publications, meeting attendance and study then backing that up by works of faith in the ministry".

  SBF - was the original term "elders" changed by Franz to "older men" just as a petty point of difference? I'd not realised that.

  How sad that the spiritually asleep sheeple will not notice this seismic shift away from apostate Gnosticism (saved by special knowledge, instead of by relationship).
