What I recall about Claudine Longet and the Spider shooting was watching SNL that weekend which had not been on long. Most people felt she intentionally shot Sabich but got away with b/c of her links to Andy Williams and the Kennedys. SNL ran a faux news show that reported that she shot him outright. The program showed him going down the slope and kept showing him being shot by a succession of shots. Granted I could not believe the first time SNL did a parody of commercials.
If I recall correctly, there was tremendous criticism of the SNL skit. She had not yet been tried so it was possibel that a jury pool could be tainted. If I recall correctly, Lorne Michaels had to issue a disclaimer on the next show.
It was shocking. I did not know her personally. She had this childish voice, sort of Jackie Kennedy like, and most thought she would not serve her time b/c of her celebrity hence the skit.
Does anyone else remember it?
Andy Williams accompanied her to court and stood by her. I was thought it was a classy thing to do. She was quite a French beauty in her youth.
