Life in the Keys is definitely different than other places. I think the way the locals handle the humidity is to pretty much not do anything that doesn't involve being in the water and/or beer. Come to think of it, when I was there, that was all I did! Er...no, actually, that's not true...it WAS my honeymoon, after all!
We enjoyed it so much, we went back the next year...but I haven't been again. I would LOVE to go. Wouldn't want to live there tho, as the hurricane threat is a real one, and there's only one road out. What is it, about 4 hours from Key West back to Miami? No thanks!
