Yes it's true, I got to experience first hand the awesome magic powers of Sparlock, the Warrior Wizard! TM
This last weekend a friend of mine asked me if I could take him to the mechanic's to pick up his car after being serviced. Now this friend of mine (who is not and has never been a JW) is the the one and only friend that I've remained in constant contact with through the dark quarter century of my life when I was a Witness. We became friends in our early 20s when we were in a rock band together. Though he never agreed with JW beliefs he still remained my friend, although our contact was rather limited. He has continued to write and produce music through all these years and occasionally called me to play guitar on some of his recordings.
When I left the organization three years ago we started hanging out more often and now actually are putting together a showcase band. We usually rehearse 2 or 3 times a month, but I digress ... (that's a story for another time).
At any rate, my friend asked if I could take him to pick up his car from the mechanic. Of course I said yes and suggested we grab lunch afterwards.
I was feeling a bit mischievous so I decided to wear my Sparlock t-shirt. When we walked into the auto repair place (a shop I'd never been to before in life) to my surprise and delight I saw an elder from one of the local congregations. Now this is a guy that I haven't seen for 3 or 4 years, but I recognized him immediately as we'd worked together at Circuit Assemblies for the previous 5 or 6 years.
After he said hello to my friend he turned to me. His eyes went straight to Sparlock and that's when the magic happened. He was obviously visibly taken aback (I'm assuming he must have been to his DC already this summer) and couldn't seem to ever make eye contact with me.
I doubt he even recognized me as the power of Sparlock clearly prevented him from ever looking directly at me even though we were in the office for a good ten minutes while my friend conducted business to pick up his car.
It was gratifying to see how much power that an imaginary Wizard created by the WTBTS really has. Apparently Sparlock wasn't created just for the sole purpose of manipulating children. His power of grown men is pretty awesome too!
