"a large number of the congregation, elders included, actually knew all along that he was a paedophile and molesting young girls ."

Hi Kizzie. I'm sorry to hear your story but are puzzled about a few aspects of the account. Are you a JW or just an "interested person"? If it was common knowledge in the cong that this man was a paedophile , why was he an elder , if indeed he was? JW official policy is that any paedophile can never be appointed to a position of authority in the congregation. Is he now disfellowshipped and what about his wife & son , both of whom seem to habe been complicit in trying to cover up the man's crimes.

As far as I know (I'm not a Jehovah's witness, I was just an interested person) he stopped being an elder when he was found to have indecently assaulted the seven year old girl of a member of the congregation.

I do however know that he was a prominent member of his congregation who regularly called from door to door on ministerial work, which is how me and my family met him.

He came across as a very charming, likeable and knowledgable man, so much so that certain aspects of his behaviour which would have 'set alarm bells ringing' had it been, say, another man, made one question ones own suspicions.

I don't know if he is disfellowshipped now, but I imagine he is, I don't think the Jehovah's Witnesses are without decency. Same goes for his wife and son I expect but cannot say.

It was actually the CID who discovered that members of the congregation, including elders knew of his offences but had until his at least, second arrest for atempted child abduction managed to keep it secret. For instance it was not reported to police when, once he'd commited so many vile acts and 'got away with it' he became careless and was discovered to have molested the youngest daughter of one of the congregation.

Thanks for relating your very personal experience, Kizzie. According to the report the indecent assault of the seven-year-old happened 10 years ago, so does that mean that he has not been in a position of responsibility for the last ten years? If that is the case I do wonder why he is now described as a "senior Jehovah’s Witness". This may be a question you are unable to answer but as there seem to be a number of inconsistencies in the report your viewpoint would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the order of positions of responsibility within the Jehovah's Witness society.

I do know for sure that Bob was a prominant member in many ways ,which may explain the press's usage of the word 'senior'.

He is a member of a large extended family of Witnesses who, it seems, had managed to 'recruit' a substantial number of potential bible students. However, I know of one family who were eager to become Jehovah's Witnesses because they mistakenly trusted Mr Robert Bill and believed all of the watchtower publications and thier interpretation of the scriptures, but were rejected because they were unemployed and thier child (a boy) had Downs Syndrome (I was told this by a former 'Jehovah's witness') and therefore would not make good winesses.

I swear I have checked my PMs and don't see them in my inbox until they're a week old. ???

Anyway, I got this in a PM (marked several days old) from someone who didn't want to post it himself/herself. So here it is:

They are in Denbigh I think, in North Wales. His son is married to the daughter of the PO from Llandudno. Both son and wife who were prosecuted are JWs. They attempted to destroy evidence on his computer and gave misleading statements when first questioned. He wasn't an elder, not sure where they got the "senior" bit although he could have been a ministerial servant. He may have been an elder previously, I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find out.

    UPDATE:

Why was he allowed into Spain?

    EXCLUSIVE by Frances Leate

URGENT questions are being asked why a dangerous sex offender who preyed on young girls was allowed to come to Spain and allegedly re-offend.

Spanish police have been searching for Robert Edward Bill, from Wales, since November 19, when a 12-year-old Spanish girl was bundled into a silver Peugeot in Velez Malaga.

Now his son has called for a change in the law to prevent dangerous sex offenders like his father coming abroad in the first place.

Stephen Bill, 26, from Preston, told the Olive Press: “I think it is ridiculous that European law allows him the right to build a new life in Spain around people who know nothing about him or his past.

“My father is a dangerous man and in north Wales everyone knows about his convictions.

“But over in Spain, expats had no idea. It just shouldn’t have happened.”

The girl, who has told of her terrifying ordeal on Spanish TV, was able to escape from the car seconds before the man sped off with her inside.

The incident mirrored Bill’s previous conviction in 2009, in which he was found guilty of the attempted abduction of a girl of five from a street in Holywell, north Wales.

He was also found guilty of indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl and of possessing 730 pornographic images of children.

Police are still involved in a major manhunt for Bill, an ex-Jehovah’s Witness.

He moved to Spain on August 9, despite a UK judge describing him as having ‘an unhealthy sexual and predatory interest in young children’.
