If you have checked out the government immigration site then I guess you understand about the point system. Check out property prices - buy/rent can be quite expensive. Careers.com etc will give employment information. Money can be made working in the mining towns at the moment, due to the mining boom. Best of luck.

I know people who have just moved here. The most difficult was finding a job. They were skilled workers back home - now they are in labouring jobs - hard work and the pay is low ($16.50/hour casual). Average weekly wages in Australia - approx $50,000.

Yes, there is lots of work in mining but they are mostly skilled jobs, it's very isolated, the work is hard and the hours long (good pay though, I believe).

Australia is a wonderful place to live and I can understand people wanting to come here.

There are literally thousands of Americans, Canadians and British moving to both AU and NZ every year. You better believe it, this has become the new center of the world

Before you come though make sure you know these two songs

I hear they're paying big money for the mines here in the NT. A friend of mine is an apprectice electrician... BIG dollars. She works two weeks, then gets a week off. They pay for her plane tickets to fly to Darwin and back when she has that week off too.. as well as her food, everything.

Any particular area you were thinking of heading to in Oz?

... and learn to like Vegemite on toast.

I've tried it, Lady, don't do it! They will tell ya to spread it thin on toast, really thin. It's still disgusting! Like eating tar on toast.
