We all know that the poor guy is just following the example of his heavenly father! You DO remember ol' Exodus 34:14, don't ya? The part where it says "because Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God"? (NWT, of course!)
I just sent the following email to Joel. I will keep you apprised of any responses.
Dear Joel,
I would like to point up what I believe is a fair question I have regarding the factual accuracy of your "Knocking" documentary.
In a promo piece I recently read, you wrote: "And we do have Jehovah's Witnesses who are serving as consultants for factual accuracy." Don't you think that is a bit like asking a telephone line service provider to provide factual consultation on their line service?
I was a baptized Jehovah's Witness for 20 years and I have recently disassociated myself because I finally admitted to myself that the organization I was claiming to represent had never existed and would never exist. Active Jehovah's Witnesses are the least likely people to know the facts about their religion. I speak from personal experience, I was clueless of so many things about the religion.
Did you have any ex-Jehovah's Witnesses serving as consultants? If not, how can you be sure you are fairly presenting the religion?
I assure you, I don't want to sabotage your project, but I certainly hope you have presented the "fair look" that your press releases claim. Otherwise, you will only succeed in creating an enormous outpouring of negative press for the Jehovah's Witnesses. I have no doubt that your documentary will increase public awareness and interest in Jehovah's Witnesses, and the factually accurate truth is only a few mouse-clicks away.
Time will tell what sort of documentary you have produced and I will happily reserve personal judgment until I see the piece.
In your release, you mentioned that the documentary covers the blood doctrine. That is a very timely issue to bring up. Were you aware of a paper written by Kerry Louderback-Wood titled "Jehovah's Witnesses, Blood Transfusions and the Tort of Misrepresentation" published in the Autumn 2005 issue of Baylor's Journal of Church and State? Papers nationwide recently ran an AP News story on it that was written by Richard Ostling. It is getting quite a lot of print and Internet media attention.
I do hope you have fairly presented the blood doctrine of Jehovah's Witnesses so the public will be fully aware of this religions history of blatant misrepresentation of medical facts to its adherents. It would be a shame if your documentary claimed to be fair and then proved to be less than fair, especially in light of the publicity machine that is getting stirred up over that specific issue.
If you would consider having an ex-Jehovah's Witness (with a LARGE family of active Jehovah's Witnesses) as a consultant on the piece, please let me know. I assure you, I will be interested.

There is much news to report about the documentary film KNOCKING on
Jehovah's Witnesses.
-- Production and editing is complete! You will soon be able to see the
63-minute documentary at film festivals and community screenings this
spring
and summer. A shorter, 53-minute version will be broadcast nationally
on PBS
in the fall. Home DVDs of the long version will be available this
summer
with lots of bonus features and extra material.
-- Emmy award-winning documentary series Independent Lens has picked up
KNOCKING for broadcast on PBS in the fall 2006 season. More details to
come

-- The University of Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College in
Reno
hosted a special sneak preview screening of KNOCKING on Feb. 7. The
documentary was shown on two screens simultaneously on opposite ends of
the
campus. The response was so great that the college had to open a second

then we know there is enough interest in that location to do a sneak
preview
screening.

Sounds to me that someones knocking out a pro witness film that's going straight to dvd so that he can flog it to some of those 6 million witnesses that love this sort of crap. Someone other than the wtbts is after those witness dollars.
