    This is a paragraph from

    http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/1995/11/1a/article_01.htm

If the accusation is denied, the elders should explain to the accuser that nothing more can be done in a judicial way. And the congregation will continue to view the one accused as an innocent person. The Bible says that there must be two or three witnesses before judicial action can be taken. (2 Corinthians 13:1; 1 Timothy 5:19) Even if more than one person "remembers" abuse by the same individual, the nature of these recalls is just too uncertain to base judicial decisions on them without other supporting evidence. This does not mean that such "memories" are viewed as false (or that they are viewed as true). But Bible principles must be followed in establishing a matter judicially.

Notice how they put quotes around "remembers." This is an article about "repressed memories."

    w95 11/1 p. 28 Comfort for Those With a "Stricken Spirit"

Remember the dubious nature of some "repressed memories" when it comes to identifying the one suspected of being a perpetrator.

The WTS who has no skilled psychiatrists, psychologist, or doctors in this field but of course has an opinionn; they will also discourage victims from going to anyone qualified. The elders are definitely not qualified to make this assessment of someone's memories.

I can remember when my siblings and I brought forth our memories, they were questioned as being "repressed." We made sure that they knew our memories were continuous and not buried for the last 30 plus years. What idiots!

What really cheeses me off about this particular article is the blanket dismissal of long-after-the-fact recollections as attributable to False Memory Syndrome. That's precisely what they are doing when they put the words "remembers" and "memories" in quotation marks.

    How DARE they?!?!?!

But if they accept the concept that traumatic memories can be suppressed and then later accurately recovered, it would then give them responsibility. That is unacceptable. It would mean they would actually have to take a stand and God forbid that happen.

Realize too that this entire discussion is irrelevent in the overall scope of JW thought. Nothing is more important in that organization than selling of their books and magazines. Therefore, anything that detracts from that is counter productive. And a complex investigation into something as delicate as child abuse, which ever way it turns out, does nothing to further sales. If the offender is found guilty, that's one less salesman. However, if you exert pressure on the victim, shut them up, and then use further pressure to get them out in service, everything returns to "normal". Literature sales stay constant and the money continues to flow. And after all, that's all that really matters isn't it?

    Scully,

Thats what jumped out to me as well. That those two words were put in quotations, while the words "animal" and "demonic" were not....The rest of the world has caught on to pedophilia being a severe and nearly untreatable mental disease. The watchtower has yet to grasp this perverse and serious problem as such. They continue to coddle and include them in their ranks as "innocent".

    Big T,

You are absolutely correct. The judgements are based not on the old testament values of justice (gods commands) but on whom is most expendable. Better to lose a youngster who is a non-producer than a fully producing and active salesman.

In short, pedophelia is not an act committed by animals and demons...but by humans. Human beings THE WATCHTOWER CLAIMS TO HAVE CONTROL OVER.

Please will you all search the web for medical conclusions on 'repressed memories'...not the memory carried through life but a 'popped up' memory helped by some modern-day medicos..........and don't condemn the society. condemn the mind specialists who have concluded that nothing can be guaranteed from statements of 'repressed memory'. what else can the society conclude? that they know better? hardly. It is hard not to be annoyed at such arrogant condemnatory conclusions and misleading settings used by those posting on this subject. If you can't find the reports from the top psychiatrists etc, pm me please. gdt

GDT there have been murders solved solely from the repressed memories of adults that witnessed them as children. In which the witness know the location of the body, or the identity of the murder. Memory is a fallible filing system. You can forget some something no matter how dramatic. Maybe you should try to find proof that humans can't forget.
