First, I'd like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to Cedars, Barbara and the rest of the staff who put this together... It's something we all hope will have great success in exposing the Watchtower's continuous deception and manipulation.

However, I don't think it's too late to change the name to something less militant or less confrontational...

My humble suggestion is ... PAFJW (Pacifist Association of Former Jehovah Witnesses)

    CA

As I posted on the other thread: There is no mandated limit on the number of anti-JW organizations.

If the name of the organization is such an Almighty Mother-f-ing Big Deal , you are perfectly free to start your own and name it whatever you like.

    Sheesh already!

Get it through your head, they will not change their name. They've discussed it as a board and they all agree to keep it as is, as is their right.

    Suggest away....

It just gets tiresome after the 30,000th time.

My suggestion was, start your own organization. Name it The Fluffy Bunny Organization of Really Nice People Who Politely Protest Against Perceived Misguided Policies By An Organization Whose Name Rhymes With Scotchflower.

Nobody said suggestions are prohibited, but if the board met after numerous critiques of the name and decided to keep it, what gives you the impression that "It's not too late to change the name," as your title indicates?

My two cents is that the best name was the one suggested on the other thread, Activists Against Watchtower Abuse, thus keeping the same acronym, but as is their right, the creators of the group have decided to keep the name.

    -

T’is a free country (at least where I live currently) and offering ideas is nothing to cause shame or angst.

I’ve thought of forming a social club named Marvin’s Social Club, LLC. Or maybe Marvin’s Grill, LLC.

Under this rather tame corporate identity I’d have lots of initiatives to be determined by membership, who’d all have to agree to house rules. We could have an Anti initiative, an Exposure initiative, an Outreach initiative, a Support initiative, an Educational iniative, a Charitable initative, and so on.

I’d set up this corporation including appointement of an initial Board of Directors responsible for all decisions thereafter.

Once structure is in place, all it takes to make this a very effective association is lots of money, lots and lots of personal sacrifice and good decisions by then and future Boards of Directors.

In my experience there are hoards of folks willing to say highminded things about what should or should not be done to build an association. But when it gets right down to it, few are willing to put serious money on the table for others to spend, and then to put personal skin in the game in the form of time away from business, family and recreation to make things work. And understand this: You have to make an association work. It takes money and lots of personal sacrifice. Did I mention lots of personal sacrifice? Oh, and it takes something called steady flow for each.

    - One time donation spurts are great. But it takes steady cash flow. How many here are ready to put cash on the table every month on a steady basis? How many here are willing to commit to this?

    - One time donation of time is great. But it takes steady volunteer flow. How many here are ready to put volunteer hours on the table every month on a steady basis. How many here are willing to commit to this?

These are what builds an association, and it only comes from those willing to make it work, with an emphasis on make.

I have personal aquantance with enough of AAWA’s leadership to trust them to shift and move according to needs. Member driven associations are dynamic of necessity. If it turns out a name change is in order they’ll act accordingly, if that’s what it takes to make it work. Associations merge all the time, and usually including a name change! Only time will tell if current AAWA leadership is comprised of enough makers to find success. But I know there’s lots of passion and experience in there, and right now that’s where my money’s going.

For now, I’ve forgotten about Marvin’s Social Club.
