My Wife's Theory

Discussing the recent BOE letter regarding child molestation this morning with my wife (she actually brought it up) , and she commented on how absurd it was - it just did not make sense!

But there was one way that it COULD make sense. She said "What if someone at the top on the Governing Body was a child molester and wanted to cover everything up? That's the only way this would make sense - in a perverted way of course!" I said it is very possible, but how could we really know for certain if it has all been covered up?

So, what do you guys think? Is there someone at the top right now who is a child molester?

I think an easier explanation is that they are nucking futs. They seriously believe their own sh!t and are going nuts trying to hold on to power.

There was an old old thread, many years ago, in which someone claimed that Ted Jaracz had abused her when he was either a CO or DO.

The current child abuse policy is all his - the latest letter presents very little that is new.

    It's happened in the past.

That's what I've thought for awhile.

My old high school government teacher brought up an interesting point - Legislators will attach lighter penalties to crimes they are likely to commit.

(The example he used back in 1976 was drunk driving which was punished by pretty much a slap on the wrist at the time.)

It's logical that the GB would figure out a way to avoid public humiliation (arrest) for a crime that they're likely to commit.

I think it is pure ego. Look how long it took the venerable Catholic church to admit that covering up was horribly wrong. The WTS may attach the Catholic church for corruption, but they've had plenty of time in the past hundred years to crust up a bit.

    BALATAR447 - that's my theory too!

SIR82 - I had read that here as well, and would not be surprised

MIND BLOWN - I think you are referring to - who was it? - Shitty or Greensleeves? I did bring up with my wife that supposedly someone in the past was a molester, but how do you really prove it? This stuff happened over 30 years ago and the guys are dead. Have to do more research.

COBALTCUPCAKE - that is an excellent point. I wish I knew the source of your government teacher's info. Interesting and most likely true.

JGNAT - I have no doubt ego plays a role. But I imagine myself being some young über dub attorney on their legal team screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" as letters like these hit the presses. From a legal standpoint it is just stupid. This BOE letter will the next "Rick Simons" Exhibit A.

As has been said before on this forum, everyone had their tipping point where they started questioning everything: for some it was 607BCE, others it was unloving treatment or having a loved one harshly disfellowshipped. For my wife, this child molesting issue is a pressure point - I think it has her really thinking.

Honestly, I think that's going a bit down the conspiracy theory road, ALA some of the whacky subliminal images Illuminati threads we see on JWN.

More likely is that the policy simply reflects the ideology of a group of males who've been living in an isolated sexist environment (the OT can only be described as misogynistic), and as non-lawyers, they are struggling to develop policies to adapt to an ever-evolving modern legal milieu that they have always been trained to think of as inferior to God's law. It reflects their disdain for a predicament that has not disappeared, despite being swept under the rug. That's all it takes, no vast conspiracy....

I think it's possible because they treat child rape as a sin as opposed to a crime, so if the GB repents then it's all OK, even though "Satan's World" would not approve. The Watchtower clearly presents themselves as above the law of the land. A GB with a secret record of child molesting is not at all far fetched. It's sad to say, but it's the truth, it's possible.

Breakfast of Champions, regardless of why these dummies really come up with their idiotic policies, I am glad your wife actually brought it up and that she sees how little sense it makes.
